Many of the warehouse buildings housing these exhibits would have been torn down years ago here.  Perhaps we should have an art walk in an area of town that could lead to an abandoned warehouse district in Jacksonville coming back to life as a true arts district?

Springfield is already that .

there are no fewer than 10, walkable studios in similar buildings.

They sure aren't located in a compact setting, such as what is displayed in the video above.  Springfield is over a mile square wide.

Its one of the actual problems with Art Walk, downtown event.

You arent really so much walking through galleries or studios or really anything permanent.

Its a show for one day in which the walls of various spaces are covered with art in order to keep people moving from one business to the next, and to create the illusion that downtown is an artsy place.

Trouble is, the next day the entire place is abandoned again.

Springfield on the other hand is the real thing.  Its where artists are squatting in cheap spaces creating art.

Its kind of ironic really.

If the arts scene here is to develop to its true potential, it will require dialogue about the work being produced.  Dialogue and criticism.

Yet the places where that is most likely to happen, is exactly where we arent really paying attention.

Lake, a brilliant art walk could be centered easily in Springfield.

can you post a map showing the exact location of Springfield's art studios?

The most certainly are.  Most of them are within 5 blocks of each other around 8th Street.  Im surprised you don't know that.

be glad to take you on a tour sometime.

I guess its just a difference in opinion of being compact.  My idea of compact would be 10 galleries or more on one city block.  When you start getting up to those levels, that's when a place truly becomes a full blown district.  Nevertheless, work out a map.  We should be giving our artist a little more visibility, if its okay with them.

I assume they also have more then 10 hidden galleries within that walk and those areas have buildings between them (with a variety of uses in them), as opposed to lots where buildings used to be that were knocked down on accident?

Oh, Hoxton/Shoreditch and your silly, brilliant Stuckists. How I love thee.

I wonder how Shoreditch Tube station being closed for 2 years in affecting the artists in that part of East London. Even with bus line replacement, the London infrastructure and Olympics project coupled with the downturn has got to be hurting galleries in the area.
