Title: I'm investing in Garnet & Gold colored Kleenex for FSU's funeral this weekend
Post by: thelakelander on November 12, 2014, 09:37:18 AM
The Swami has predicted that someone's 25 game win streak will go down this Saturday night in a big boiling pot of crab legs.  For those who invest, prices are rapidly rising on the value of garnet and gold kleenex.

The rough weather headed for South Florida, specifically at Joe Robbie, Pro Player Park, Dolphin Stadium or whatever it's called these days, should take this trouble maker right off the news circuit!

Is there any truth to the rumor that this will be the largest Miami home crowd ever?  They're saying there might be 8,000 people there.  Crazy!

Don't worry about distractions like crowd noise and drunk fans sitting in the stands. Me and Duke's healed ankle have been waiting for this beatdown for 12 months now!

Those were some wild times. I was partying back then, and the bars were overwhelmed. And that was here in Jax. I can only imagine Tally and Miami.

Should be interesting...

Lake, I hope you've invested cause you will be needing those Kleenex come late Saturday night.

Used to be called "The U"  now it's called "The Who?"

Riding a big 3 game win streak.

Starting a Freshman QB.

Mario Edwards Jr. is going to break him in half.

Sun Life Stadium, also know as Doak South.

Man, you step away from the computer for a day and this happens.

Simply HAS to be a troll act.

Cannot believe that Vegas has the line for this game at only 1.5 points for the Noles.

That's the easiest money I've seen all season.

DVI should empty their coffers into this one before the oddsmakers wake up. By Sunday, they'll be rolling in enough money to finance the Trio, Berkman II, and that six thousand foot observation tower at the Shipyards.

I'm glad that we have a tomato can to kick around this week though before moving on to a stronger opponent like Florida.

I was in Tallahassee for Wide Left. Could have heard a pin drop on Tennessee Street after Xavier missed that kick. Gut wrenching loss, but took great satisfaction in watching Ohio State take out Miami in the Fiesta Bowl.

haha, the only risky bet to make is if FSU's roster can spend a night in South Beach and stay out of trouble before Saturday's game. I won't be surprised if Duke breaks the UM all time rushing record this Saturday. He's faster than a pair of fresh crab legs.

Man, you guys are STILL whining about the Fiesta Bowl?

That was like forty years ago.

Bad calls happen.

Champions push obstacles aside and do what it takes to get the job done.

Take me, for example. I woke up with a head cold this morning, and I'm still here at work, producing beautifully. Like a champ. It's like the Jordan Flu Game, only in an office, and without Scottie Pippin here to cradle my head in his hands.

After the pass interference call, the Canes could have brushed it off and finished OSU off.

Instead, they just curled up in the fetal position and died.

Miami had multiple chances to put that game away. The U's defense gave up two touchdowns following the pass interference, and then OSU pulled out that epic goal line stand to end the game. Game was Miami's to lose, with the ball on the two yard line, 1st down. And your boys got stuffed FOUR times in a row to close it out.

Next you're going to cry fowl on Florida State pushing Winston's hearing back to the end of the regular season...

Haha. A selfish champ. You should have stayed on the bench, keeping your germs to yourself, and let your backup have a chance to rise to the occasion. That's what team depth is all about. Spreading that nasty ninja around will only take down teammates, truly resulting in a significant loss of overall production! That's a win for the opposition!

Oh boy, today's fun news:

QuoteNew York Times reports new case where FSU athletics appears to supercede the law
Posted: November 14, 2014 - 2:36pm  |  Updated: November 14, 2014 - 3:08pm
By The Times-Union

A New York Times article published Friday -- titled 'For an F.S.U. Football Player, a Hit-and-Run Becomes Traffic Tickets,' – documents yet another case in which legal issues intersect with high-profile college athletes.

The lengthy investigation brings the roles of Florida State University and the Tallahassee Police Department question.

The Times' story tells of Seminoles' starting cornerback P.J. Williams, who allegedly drove into the path of a vehicle being driven by a teenager heading home from a shift at Olive Garden. Williams and two passengers, including teammate Ronald Darby, abandoned their wreckage and fled on foot in the early hours of Oct. 5, according to the Times.

Hours earlier, the Seminoles had secured a 43-3 home victory against Wake Forest.

An excerpt from the article states, "The New York Times looked into how the police handled this case, reviewing law enforcement records and interviewing witnesses, lawyers, the police and a university representative.

The examination found that Mr. Williams, driving with a suspended license, was given a break by the Tallahassee police, who initially labeled the accident a hit-and-run, a criminal act, but later decided to issue him only two traffic tickets. Afterward, the case did not show up in the city's public online database of police calls — a technical glitch, the police said."

According to the story, "By the next day, it was as if the hit-and-run had never happened."

Love the Noles, but this is really starting to get disgraceful. I have no interest in autographs or crab legs, but the way that the Tallahassee Police Department and the university have covered up, sidestepped, and generally minimized some very serious allegations is pretty disgusting, and a black eye on both the football program and the university.

I reallly hate to say it, but it's gotten to the point where the NCAA really needs to step in and do something. It should have happened the second they found out that the TPD was tipping off Jameis Winston and his legal team about a rape case.

Will still enjoy every moment of the ass-kicking on Saturday, but I'm really starting to feel conflicted about supporting what's going on over in Tallahassee.

A batted down pass goes for the TD, a shanked FG, missed extra point, two dropped TD passes.....fine.  But then Duke goes down with cramps when the game is on the line, too!

Ok. Tell the truth.  What FSU alumnus sold their soul to the devil for this run? :P :P

I guess I'll have to look on the bright side. At least it's not Stephen Morris who the canes will have to rely on to take don FSU in Doak next year!

LaVilla was a rough place during the turn of the century. The link in the first post of this thread mentions Pat Chappelle's contributions to the LaVilla blues scene.  Chappelle founded the Rabbit's Foot in 1900 in his hometown of Jacksonville. After he died, the company was acquired by someone else and eventually relocated to Mississippi.

Chappelle also owned a few bars, at least six brothels on Church Street (between Jefferson & Broad), made whiskey and was a big gambler. Anyway, doing some research for the Lost Jacksonville book and came across this nugget in the New York Times archives.

http://query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?res=F20E10FE3F5C11738DDDA90A94D0405B8885F0D3

In 1899, he was accused of giving knockout drops and attacked by several men in one of his saloons. If not for the marshal, he probably would have never survived the Jax beat down he got a year before starting Rabbit's Foot a year later.

With that said, it's a shame that I'm having to dig up Jax's black history from places as far north as New York and that Mississippi honors the Jacksonville guy but we don't.....

QuoteThe company was founded, organized, originally owned and managed by Patrick Henry "Pat" Chappelle (1869 – October 21, 1911). Chappelle was an African-American former vaudeville performer and entrepreneur from Jacksonville, Florida, who had established a small chain of theatres in the late 1890s. In 1900, he commissioned Frank Dumont (1848–1919) of Philadelphia to write a show, A Rabbit's Foot, for a new touring company. The show included minstrel performances, dancers, circus acts, comedy and musical ensemble pieces. It was owned and operated totally by African-Americans.

The new "Rabbit's Foot Company" toured widely and successfully, reaching New York as well as the South, where Chappelle's gambling and business successes funded the company's own railroad car and touring circus tents. By 1904 the show had expanded to fill three railroad carriages, and was describing itself as "the leading Negro show in America".[7] The following year, one of the performers, William Rainey, brought his young bride Gertrude to join the company, and as "Ma" Rainey she soon became one of its leading attractions.

By 1906 Chappelle was able to maintain multiple tent shows on the road. However, growing competition from other companies took its toll, and Chappelle died in 1911. The company was then sold to a white carnival owner, Fred S. Wolcott, who continued with the touring show.

Later years, 1912–1950

In 1912, Ma Rainey brought the young Bessie Smith into the troupe, and worked with her until Smith left in 1915. Ida Cox was also a featured woman blues singer.

By 1918, Wolcott had moved the show's headquarters to Port Gibson, Mississippi.

That's how fumbles during game winning TD drives become non-reviewable  incomplete passes and batted down passes turn into miraculous TD catches. Reminds me a lot of UM's 2002 season. After a dominant 2001 season, there were several wins the following year featuring the rabbit's foot.  You should be familiar. One of them was against FSU!  It finally caught up with them in the championship game after 34 straight wins.  It will be interesting to see how FSU's story ends. Will the foot inch them closer to the Cane's 5 or will they go the route of Mississippi State?

No problem. Not worried about Cook. He's no Duke and Yearby is just as good. Greg Jones was a better, FSU back, IMO. Now when is that kicker going pro? Can't show Hurricane speed on kick returns when that guy keeps kicking it through the back of the end zone.

He's a redshirt sophomore.  He could come out early after this year.

Before the 53 yarder, he told Jimbo that he was confident from 55.  But that that wasn't his ceiling.  He's a boss.

And when it is all said and done, Cook will go down as one of, if not the best, RB in FSU history.

Lake, good news is you may not have to see Aguayo next year if he goes pro. Bad news is he has a younger brother that will likely be FSU's kicker in 2016. He's supposedly going to be as good as Roberto.

Miami played a good game Saturday though. You guys would only have one loss if you had played that well all year.

5 in a row and 8 of the last 10 for the Noles. Feels good.

Sort of feels like the Chris Rix days in reverse, lol.  I don't feel ashamed about anything. Canes played a hell of a game. I've seen a lot of progress and growth in the younger players like Kaaya since the defeats in the beginning of the season.
Everything goes in cycles. A few years ago, it was Tebow fever in Gainesville and now they don't have a coach.

AND THEY DID!!  FSU outrushed the Gators while holding them well below their season average.

28 STRAIGHT.

That said, the Noles at home, at night, with better talent (and coaching) should win by 7, even with their best player injured.

Miami Hurricanes players arrested for rape
Girl, 17, was 'physically helpless to resist'
Published: 07/08/2014 at 4:22 PM

(ESPN.GO) — Two University of Miami football players arrested on sexual battery charges against a "physically helpless" 17-year-old girl were dismissed from the team and suspended Tuesday.

Court and jail records show JaWand Blue and Alexander Figueroa were booked on the charges Tuesday. Both are 20-year-old linebackers.

According to the police report, both players admitted to buying drinks for the accuser, bringing her back to Figueroa's dorm room in the early-morning hours of Saturday and repeatedly performing sexual acts, including intercourse, without her consent while she was "physically helpless to resist."

Both players face charges of sexual battery on a physically helpless victim and are being held on $10,000 bond, according to the Miami-Dade County records obtained by the Palm Beach Post.

You can't feel bad about this week after losing to Cincinnati. Every defeat get us closer to the bigger game changer Miami needs. That's sending Golden packing and bringing in someone who really knows what it takes to put together a winning team in South Florida.

That was a great game. Miami has some great players, unfortunately FSU has Dalvin Cook. He stays healthy this team could go all the way.
What? All the way? Um . . . no freaking way. I didn't see much of the game (The Flagship -- you know, that team all Noles and Canes hate -- was playing on the SEC Channel, dontcha know) but rarely have I seen an FSU team so one-dimensional. No Dalvin, no real spark. That doesn't argue well for them, not at all. And if they gave up all that yardage to Kaaya on defense, the Gators should be able to control the clock when they come Florida Field -- and I'm pretty sure that cramp Dalvin got in this game is going to be much, much worse than a mere cramp against us. It could be another "no mas" game for a Seminole running back against Florida.

Congrats to the Noles. Ennis, the Canes showed tremendous spirit and fight when I quickly turned over there during commercial breaks. I thought Golden was a great hire but a good coaching change for you might mirror what is happening with us this year.

I bet it was truly hard for you to say Congrats to the Noles? This being said It's just as painful to me, to see the Gators 6-0. Now I look forward to your LSU game to see if the Tigers can take the Gators down. For I will always Hate The Florida Gators! ;D

This is true. FSU is pretty one dimensional right now. They aren't winning a championship this year. However, Cook is pretty good. They lose that game by double digits easily without him. It's also true about Golden. He's had five years. Players he recruited are already in the NFL. How many more years does he need?

All I'm asking of you FSU is to keep winning until Nov 7th so we won't drop a spot or two after whipping that ass.

(Unless Dabo wets the bed again calling the game like he's done the past 3 years.)

Thank You FSU still could lose to Georgia Tech, Syracuse, Clemson is going to be a hard game to win and we have to play them at Clemson. NC State could upset FSU. And those Damn Gators could beat us. So I will take each week as it comes and hope for the best. I would be shocked if we lost to Louisville or Chattanooga. But College Football to me is still the best game on TV. ;)

Today was not just on the coaches, but the players as well. That was, as I'm sure you posters know,
the worst loss in U of Miami football. EVER.

Oh I'm here! We needed that beating. This should do it for the Golden era. And yes, you can blame it on the coach. He recruited and signed the players he can't coach. Blow it up and find a real Cane to rebuild the program!

FSU should fare much better. They don't have a head coach that could easily be mistaken for a Publix store manager.

Don't confuse disappointment (losing on the road on the last play) with misery (losing at home  in front of all 4 of your fans by 58 points).

Joaquin Gonzalez's letter from last year rings true! Celebration going on in the streets of Miami!

QuoteThis is letter I sent Blake James last year, and never got a response....all I need to add is HOF Class of 2016 under my name at the bottom....cause that's all that's changed!!!

From: Joaquin Gonzalez

To: Blake James

Date: October 5, 2014 at 12:21:33 PM EDT

Subject: UM FOOTBALL

Hello Blake,

Hate to write this because it's not my place to do so, but after last nights performance I could barely sleep because our irrelevance on the national stage is eating me inside.

I have recently made it on campus a little more than usual and just in talking to the people that were around when we were relevant, you can quickly sense that things are a little different. Nobody says we don't work hard, nor that we don't have the talent, I truly believe that is not the issue, we have always worked hard. However, when I hear from more than 3 influential people that the kids are confused, that bothers me!!!! When we walked those halls back in the day, we knew the playbook better than those coaches, and the weekly game plan was simple because we all new our assignments!! That is not the case now. It makes me sick to see the mentals on tape of just blown assignments and wrong gap coverages!!!! Enough is enough!!!

You have a national championship caliber QB, would be a shame to not put him in a position to actually compete for one.

You need to demand D'nofrio to be replaced if you want any chance keeping some hope in our fan base, and if Al doesn't agree then that's his ticket out of Coral Gables!

This is the time to put your foot down and make history by not allowing this to go any further and know that Butch Davis will take this job in a heart beat and would sit on this thrown for a long time. Imagine what that would do, to recruiting and our fan base! I know it's not an easy move but sometimes the right things to do, are the hardest but the most rewarding.

We have the talent to win, we just don't have the right direction!

WE NEED TO BE RELEVANT AGAIN!!!

Go Canes!

Joaquin Gonzalez

Iron Arrow

'00 & '01 Team Captain

2001 National Champion

Glaringly one dimensional, tufsu1. Tech took your request to heart and did just that. They dared Golson to beat them passing, they gave you 70 net yards rushing on 24 carries by packing the box -- and your QB couldn't do a damn thing with it. Your boys had 16 points at halftime and ended the game with 16 points.

Pitt scored 31, Clemson scored 43, UNC 38, Duke 34 and Notre Dame 30 on the Ramblin' Wreck.

Y'all are dangerously close to verifying my #BeforeJameis -- #AfterJameis prediction with respect to Jimbo (and you've given him that big ass contract now). The next few weeks will tell the tale.

I want FSU to win every game and GT blocked a kick and won the game. Shit Happens! You Gator Fans are the Worst. Jimbo Fisher is the coach and he is worth every penny, even if we lose more games. How many coaches has UF had since 1947 14. FSU started playing football in 1947 and we have had 9 coaches. Gators home to the changing Head Football Coach!

Really their arrogance is insufferable.  Pot meet kettle.... The endless crying coming from Tallahassee regarding ESPN being the source of all of their problems.

Nationally the ACC is about as respected in football as the AAC or MAC.   :o :o :-X  And TUFSU's claim of a Thanksgiving sweep last year, now all of a sudden they have credibility?!?!  The SEC was sweeping that weekend on the regular.   Try winning some MNCs more than once a decade and with more than one team.  If ole Dabo can avoid Clemsoning down the stretch maybe some credibility will come with it.

Let Jimbo keep doing less with more and see how long you guys love him.   He's got some Muschamp tendencies.  Last Saturday night should have NEVER been that close, or even come down to that kick.  That game was some seriously bad conservative coaching.  Had he sat on the ball and waited for overtime GT would have lost 10 out of 10 times.  DC was good for 8 yds a clip towards the end of the 4th especially on the toss play.  As much as it pains me to say it, Jameis & Greene were something special.  If not for them (& Benjamin to an extent)  FSU would still be sitting at 2 NCs.

Slow your roll there, fella.  These things come and go in cycles and the ACC is taking their turn.

I totally expect Dabo to wet the bed anytime now, but that's because it's expected.  Clemson has the talent if the coaching can not trip over their dick this year.

3 years ago, I was in Atlanta when we beat LSU with a game-ending field goal.
2 years ago, I was in Miami when we absolutely curb-stomped OSU without hardly throwing a pass beyond the line of scrimmage.

This year, I won't be there, but we have a team that can win it all.  It's still not time to let my chest puff out, but I'm gonna go ahead and start loosening up.
