Title: Marvel announces movies until 2019
Post by: spuwho on October 29, 2014, 12:41:10 PM
Marvel Studios announced 9 movies to be made over the next 5 years.

Along with Captain America: Civil War and the next Thor and Avengers (Age of Ultron hasnt even been released yet!) They are introducing many new characters along the way which in turn will spawn even more movies. Also included was Guardians of the Galaxy sequel.

With Disney spawing extensions to the Star Wars trilogy, there are a wealth of films in our future

I predict people will grow tired of the onslaught of superhero movies before then. This shit's getting really out of control.

I wouldn't count on it. The bubble still has not burst on Marvel Movies, as even Guardians, a film starring heroes no one has ever heard of, out did The Avengers. The hype will only continue to build.

It will keep going till it's no longer profitable, then it'll stop (for a while). Hollywood is so out of ideas right now that they'll squeeze every last dime they can out of something that seems to be working. Star Wars is one of the very few mega-profitable franchises that didn't do it that way, and that's only because George Lucas had control and refused to do it for years (and because it's still mega-profitable in other areas outside of film).

Guardians was at least different though. I mean, basically every Marvel/DC storyline is essentially the same thing. They're making so many so quickly that many of them end up being "throwaway" films, as in see it once & its not something you'll ever want to watch again. While entertaining, thats really the definition of a shit movie IMO.

Don't get me wrong, I like superhero type films (The Dark Knight, Richard Donner's Superman, Iron Man, and Unbreakable are some of my favorite movies ever), but Jesus. Slow down.

^^ Unbreakable, yeah, you got it. That one was great. Surprised how many people aren't familiar with it.

You got that right. It deserves MUCH more recognition than it got/gets. I must confess I let this movie go unwatched all these years until last year when I caught an M Night article (or maybe it was Bruce Willis) talking about wanting to do the sequel, so I finally checked it out. It blew me away. I actually watched it twice a few days apart because I knew I'd missed a lot of the subtleties in it (and it has a lot).

To be honest, I'd prob consider it the best superhero origin films ever made, mainly because of the acting, the musical score & the fact that the story is more grounded in reality. Tarantino sums it up pretty well here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjhHjhyv6sw

As long as they stop destroying New York or Los Angeles as the highlight of the film. That is the plot peak that I am really tired of. The NYC destruction scene in Avengers was too long (IMHO).

I find it funny that they are already talking Avengers 3, when Avengers 2 isn't even out of the render farm yet.

Star Wars, all I can say is if JJ can keep it fresh and alive in the story line, its all good. Hiring Lawrence Kasdan for the script instead of using George's junk for lines is a great first start.  But the crass "Star Wars Everywhere" is getting over the top. Geez, they even have Phineas and Ferb meet the Star Wars Rebels, I mean enough is enough. I know Disney wants to get their money worth, but since they took over LFL, the marketing machine has been over the top.

My son watches Disney and Disney XD and the Star Wars "push" is nearly non-stop.

Ugh, tell me about it. The absolute worst was in Man Of Steel when they destroyed Metropolis, surely killed thousands in the process, etc & no one said shit about it. ::) This "popcorn film" format is what I hate the most.

Its so bad that Chris Evans (Captain America) announced that he wanted to retire from acting. He later recanted (likely because of money, or the studio), but still. He knows they're putting out garbage, he just can't come out & say that.

I have a rule about TV that I'm just about to transfer to movies: I won't watch any show set in New York or LA unless that setting is absolutely necessary.
