Title: New Book, STREETCARS! Coming Soon!
Post by: Ocklawaha on September 09, 2014, 06:36:54 PM
Its still too early to pre-order, but here is the cover proof for our newest look at Jacksonville (and our regional communities) transportation.

The City builders, the creators of Springfield, Ortega, San Jose, Panama Park... we'll tell all.
Corruption, deceit, corporate greed, political pandering, turn-coats and sell outs... there all here too.

JTA, is going to love this one!  ;)

Ock ..... you sneaky person.  I'm so happy that you've done this book.  I know you've enjoyed it immensely. But I'll bet it was a bit more work than you had anticipated.

This will be a super book for local history.  I stock lots of the History Press titles.

I would like for somebody to "do" a history of the "Shipyards" in Jax.  I mentioned the need for a shipyard history to this publisher.  When I conveyed that I used to work at the shipyards as a ship fitter in the sixties, they asked if I would be interested in doing the book.  I said I would like to but that I had no time ... that I had to make a living.

Also Ock ... the book you did might even prove to be a subtle encouragement for the great powers to entertain the idea of moving faster toward the return of the streetcar to the Jax system.  Hey ... we can dream and hope.

You are correct on it being a bit more work then anticipated. I thought I was seeing double or perhaps falling victim to the myriad pain medications I've been on for the last year. As it turns out Jacksonville actually had TWO North Jacksonville Street Railways, and to make matters worse, they ended up with the same owes but with different intents! Talk about a crazy mess to sort through and it quickly became obvious that the press of that era was as confused as I was trying to read the reports. It was work, but it was intriguing and sort of a Sherlock Holmes sort of pursuit.
