The place really went downhill after the family sold the place, but still a sad day for all Jacksonville BBQ fans.

Yes. My grandmother used to take me there all the time when I was a child. I remember Mrs. Lucille tending the pit. It was so good.

Hmm....I have mixed feelings.  I own some property directly behind this restaurant. Sad to see any long time business close but I'm also tired of them (or homeless people) dumping their trash on my lots and me paying someone to clean it up every few weeks. Hopefully, whoever is interested in purchasing the place will do something decent on that block.  Heck, they can feel free to make me an offer if they want a bigger parcel to pay with.

Yeah a sandwich with some of their pulled pork and mustard sauce was one of the favorites as a kid. Sadly I haven't been there in almost a decade. I got tired of prices going up and the quality of the food going down.

The two locations of Cotten's Bar B Que, with the 2nd on Rogero Road in Arlington are just symbols of a change in Jacksonville. As the area just south of 20th street/Main street changes, so does Arlington and the people who used to frequent these locations either die or move away, there are fewer people to support them. Just part of the change of the urban restaurants. If Bar-b-que was sexy, we would see 100 new BBQ joints open up, just like we have seen with new hamburger joints in Jax. BBQ may be dead in Jax, if not for Cole Pepper's event every Spring, as burger options seem to run the gamut as compared to BBQ places.

just a speculating. But I'd look for JTA to be the offer.

Lake, do you have any idea why they demolished the building next to Cottons? I thought the rumor was an auto parts chain was going in there but nothing has happened since. Other than being old, it didn't seem to be in bad shape. I hate seeing the old stuff destroyed. It has so much more character than anything new going in.

The retail building just too the south? No.  I figure they had problems selling it, didn't want to spend the cash to renovate it, or pay the higher taxes for it, so they tore it down.

I don't know the one one Rogero road does quite well. If you haven't been I encourage you all to do so. Real friendly atmosphere, older husband and wife team.

I've been in there for lunch and get the feeling that people come from as far as downtown to eat there during their break. It's not too far off the expressway.

Drove by the location the other day for the first time in awhile. Looks like the place has reopened under new ownership. Has anyone tried it?

It has reopened. Still using the original recipes. I hear it is pretty good. Definitely going to try it when I visit for Christmas.

It is very good. The best, no, but good....and close to the house.
