The Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and Jacoby Symphony Hall are two of the best things about downtown. They deserve your support. Students can purchase a "Sound Check Card" for $25 which gets them into most of the big events (i.e. Masterworks Series, of which there are 10 weeks). This is a ridiculously good deal and if you have never been to Symphony Hall (inside the Times Union PAC) I highly recommend you go. You'll be in shock something of this quality resides downtown.

The acoustics in Jacoby Hall are as good as in any major hall in the world.  It is truly a world class music performance space.  It is actually much better than such famous halls as the Royal Albert in London and the symphony hall in Toronto (whose name I forget...some politician?).

Tonight the Jacksonville Symphony presents George Gershwin's PORGY AND BESS.  If you don't have tickets that is too bad because the performers are World Class. It is pretty much SOLD OUT but there are a few single tickets remaining. PORGY AND BESS is rarely performed and the score is extremely difficult, so if you consider yourself a cultural aficionado you should try and get down to Jacoby Hall
to hear it.

This is a Concert version, no sets involved. Singers onstage in front of the Orchestra. Conducted by James Meena from Charlotte NC.
