Title: Jimmy John's Coming Downtown!!!
Post by: Bolles_Bull on August 21, 2014, 03:45:29 PM
http://www.bizjournals.com/jacksonville/news/2014/08/21/jimmy-johns-coming-to-the-urban-core.html

A few months out, In the Elks Building at Laura and Adams St. Big win for downtown in my opinion!

I find their subs to be average at best.

Easily better than subway or quiznos, and i think its a big plus that a national chain is proactively choosing to come here.

Yep, they're nothing too special but their speed gimmick really does sell me.  It's really useful when you're hangry and don't want to go stand in line somewhere.

# 16 turkey with bacon and add dijon mustard or the # 2 keeps me satisfied. I pit them again subway mainly and don't compare them to Firehouse or Larry's.

Their chips are bland and you have to beg them for napkins. Other than that JJs does the job.

Agreed on the expansion comment. Although I really liked Quiznos toasted subs (esp the peppercorn one) but judging by how many stores they've closed down I appear to be in the minority on that one.

Maybe it was those freaky rodent commercials they had back in the early 2000s that scared everyone off:

Nice surprise to read the location is at Laura and Adams. When I first saw the headline, I assumed it would be   a part the Fresh Market strip center in Brooklyn.

This is great! Which building is the Elks again? the smaller one where la cena is or the larger one with the jewelry store on the bottom?

While I agree that Jimmy Johns takes a backseat to Larry's, Firehouse etc., any news is good news for businesses expanding to the urban core. Congratulations Jimmy Johns and best of luck!

The smaller one.  The larger one with Jacobs Jewelers is the Greenleaf & Crosby building.

I get the sense that Quizno's overexpanded, and I have heard numerous stories of their treating their franchise holders poorly.

Also, I had almost forgotten them, but those commercials were disturbing.

I went there once to the one on riverside. After all the rave I was extremely disappointed. The bread was hard and the sandwich was very hard to eat. Everytime I bit into everything came ozing out. Not to mention it was not very good at all. But anything coming downtown is a plus! LOL

That echos my experience from having only eaten there once.

Besides that, they charge for cheese! What kind of sub shop charges for cheese? Burger place yes, because a burger is often had without cheese, but subs always have cheese included with them.

on a side note I know the guy that does the leasing in the elks building. They got some pretty good perks there. Even if the went in the hole for whatever reason (which I doubt they will) that building is pretty giving when it comes to making sure it is fully leased at all times. I am however curious... It is a pretty delivery based business, and judging by the lack of parking at the location I wonder if that will be the main focus of this branch... I also wonder if they will be closed like most other places on the weekends when most of the offices are shut down or will they duke it out and be the place for the residents to enjoy.

I personally don't hunt, period. I don't enjoy killing. But I do eat beef, chicken, fish, and a variety of other things that were formerly living so I'm not going to be a hypocrite about it. However I think the line is pretty clearly drawn at endangered species.

I wasn't impressed with JJs either the first time.

Zenmaster says find one or two items on the menu that will appeal to you, make them cut the sandwich in half (you have to ask them to do this) ask for some extra condiments and napkins and think of how much time you'll save.

You can't actually think this is an adequate response to Chris drawing a distinction between endangered and non-endangered species....

And you can't actually believe Chris kills his chicken/beef/pork fish....

C'mon - if you kill endangered species for thrills, you have a small penis. Or something to prove.  ;D

It's not cheap to hunt a lion, almost $50k.

Here's a price list: http://www.luxuryhunts.com/ (http://www.luxuryhunts.com/)

Most of these types of hunts are done on private property where the landowners are paid handsomely to keep a healthy population of these animals for the purpose of big game hunts.  If it werent for the hunts, the landowners would have no incentive to keep big game like this around, they kill their livestock etc, so they would just have them all killed.

Not to say it is a great personality trait to want to kill endangered species but their is more to the story than you think alot of the time.

So what you're saying is it's OK to kill endangered species as long as it is in a controlled environment?

No I just think its interesting that these animals would likely not exist unless there were these douchebags that wanted to hunt them. Its kind of a catch-22.

Yea,we are experimenting with the same approach on lands about a forty five minute drive west of downtown jax.
"Northeast Timberlands Preserve" et al hinges on combo Public Lands and (cheap!.... 8)) private leases that will, possibly, create landscape scale natural lands presence, further enhanced by behind the scenes, rather sophisticated 'growth management' and other protective measures.

Which basically means, rugged natural wild lands country west of town more nourishing than the food stuff crap discussed here!
Jimmy John's won't bring family back from Colorado.

Food is great at camp in the woods north of Lawtey. Including native game- maybe, maybe not so 'endangered'.
Home & Camp meals typically superior to restaurant.
Tough shit.

If you needed another reason to avoid this idiots company:
QuoteA lawsuit against Jimmy John's revealed that the sandwich shop forces all employees — including low-wage sandwich makers and delivery drivers — to sign an employment agreement with a non-competition clause that bars them from working for any competitor for two years after they leave, the Huffington Post reports.

Wow for a crappy minimum wage job you have to sign a non-competitive agreement? That's crap.
Here is the secret of an ok JJ sub. There isn't one. I HATE their bread. For me it the worst of all the sub shops.
But...... I will give them one thing. If you get one of the typical lunch breaks that most corporate slave drivers offer you  that last all of 30 minutes you can't get a faster sub. And I like that they are going downtown.

And the killing of endangered animals is just grotesque. Is blood lust so rampant in our world today that we have to kill beautiful animals to get a thrill? HORRIBLE!
