Title: Need help making a website
Post by: ben says on August 17, 2014, 10:42:32 AM
I want to start a website.

I know absolutely nothing about starting a website, maintaining a website, or using a website (from a creation/maintenance standpoint).

How much does something like this cost - i.e., building a website and maintaining said website?

Any IT guys on MJ that would be interested in such a project? At minimum, maybe explaining what such a project entails?

Thanks

Before talking with anyone I would ask yourself some questions to help in the site design.

- What are you trying to accomplish with site?
- Who is the audience you want reach?
- Will it be a commercial site or just sharing of information?
- Do you want to control how/when it is updated or do you need someone to manage it?

After you write down the answers, here are a couple of local website developers.

Create Studios in Jacksonville Beach

Jacksonville Web Design

Or you can try any of the "self design" sites like Clover.

I am most positive there are others on MJ  who have a background in websites who can offer more feedback.

Yes, the most important part is planning. If it's informational-only, then a simple design with presentation graphics and basic data will suffice. If it is intended to sell or trade or heavily interact with the public (like this one for example) then the complexity rises dramatically. It's essentially two distinct products.
