Pretty jaw-dropping.
Apparently a Hollywood effects company was brought in to help with the new video boards and sound system.
Would be a real shame to see this massive investment underutilized.
If I'm the city, I'm using every viable excuse to fire these bad boys up. Whether it be showing away games, hosting movie nights, livestreaming special events or concerts, etc.

They wouldnt be able to show away games. I think someone suggested that but it has something to do with the league and the television contracts and all that fooliness. But you make a good point. This was a hell of an investment and the city should milk every penny from it.
Wow... I just felt like I was in the movies. LOL I dont care what anyone says, but this is the best thing we could have ever done. One thing that always urked me about Jacksonville, and the Jaguars is that we were so medicore. Nothing really stood about the city, or the team. For the first time we can really say " we have something no on else has." I am really proud of the city and Khans vision. He has really provided a much needed jult of excitement and its very refreshing.

How about showing the Jags when they are in London, live?

I wonder if that is within the rules of the league's television agreement. If it isn't they really should find a way to make an exception.
Seems like there was alot of tearing and jittering in the video. Hopefully that is just part of the kinks being worked out.

That's actually a GREAT idea. Especially since they're technically 'home' games.
Edit: Was there already a cease & desist ordered? No video.

EverBank Field scoreboards visible for miles
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Have you driven by EverBank Field after sundown in the last few weeks? There's no way you could miss the world's largest scoreboards when they're lit up. In fact, you don't even have to be near the stadium to see them.
You can see the High Definition LED screens from the Hart Bridge, from MLK, and even 12 miles away from the Dames Point Bridge.
"I actually saw them today when we were going over I-95, it's actually kind of cool," said Tripp Turner, a Jacksonville resident.
The lights are so bright they're seen from almost any bridge in Jacksonville.
"It affects the migration patterns of the sea turtles in Jacksonville," said Max Mollur jokingly. "They don't know where to lay their eggs."
The scoreboards will be unveiled on July 26. The entire renovations project for EverBank Field is rounding out at about 63 million dollars.
Here's a view of the boards from a plane:

Don't hate me! I saw it in action yesterday while crossing the Mathews Bridge heading downtown. It was awesome, no doubt. BUT very distracting for drivers
Really fun official unveiling last night.
$43 million in public funding, plus another $20 million from Khan, has once again transformed Everbank Field into a truly world class facility. I know there will always be mixed feelings about how we spend our tax dollars, but there's no denying that we got an incredible bang for our buck with these upgrades.
Really does almost feel like a brand new stadium.
With all due respect to former ownership, it's pretty incredible what has happened to this franchise -- between the rebranding, new uniforms, London game, stadium upgrades, locker rooms, successful drafts, etc -- since Khan, Lamping, and Caldwell have come to town. Loved the Weavers, but as more time passes, I really do think that they bear a fair share of responsibility for the team's past struggles by allowing the franchise to stagnate to the extent that it did.

Agree wholeheartedly.
And I know that the main boards and the pools are the focus, but the banner lights around the stadium were impressive as well. They've also added HD to the 4 corner boards on the towers.
On a side note, during the Fulham match, my girlfriend noticed all of the cool shots of the action on the boards and then commented that she didn't see the cameras. I saw some at the bottom of the 400's on the 50, and there was a setup in the NE corner field level, but that was it. Does anyone know if they made an effort to conceal the camera locations during construction, or is it just that it's not the NFL and they're not being covered from 72 1/2 different angles?
Edit: pictures speak more than words....

^More than that was added / upgraded! 8) The 2 main scoreboards, 4 corner boards and 2 banner video boards along the East and West sides of the stadium were upgraded. There were also two new banner boards added above and below the Budzone on the South EZ as well as another massive banner under the cabanas between the pools. The pools also will have their own lighting / will be able to change colors! The Skylounge on the South EZ has also been completely redone. Gone is the former vinyl tent. It's now a HUGE glass structure about 3 times the size of it's predecessor with additional standing room on the roof. It'll be interesting to see how this area is handled for the UF vs UGA game / Gator Bowl as it was normally filled in with bleacher seats and UF and UGA seem pretty adamant that they only want seats.
While the video boards are all complete, the Cabana area is about 90% complete. I believe they are adding in some foliage and more semi permanent structures.
Sounds great! Now, did they fix the time and temperature signs on the outside of the north scoreboard? Don't think those have worked since season 3 or 4 ... and they moved them to the new structure.

Not sure what the seating plans are, but they did say the pool/cabana areas would not be available for the 10/26 game vs. the Dolphins due to Fla/Ga game being so close.
The plan is for temp seats in both end zones now. I believe the new Skylounge is a portable structure and will be dismantled for the bleachers for FL/GA game and then put back up for the rest of Jags games as I am pretty sure they just put that up this week. I have to admit even that structure made a big difference compared to the tent in the past with regard to the overall appearance of the stadium.

I was at the event last night and it was spectacular! I loved those new boards and the video they showed to unveil them was pretty impressive.
My biggest complaint is with those freakin' Bud Light signs at the bottom of the main boards. The swoosh blocks a portion of the bottom center screen. Can we get rid of the swoosh, please?
Other than that, the boards are great!

Another thing I like about the new scoreboards is how they kind of close in the stadium. With the removal of the seats in the north end zone, the towering displays stretching across both end zones, and the four new HD displays at each corner, Everbank feels significantly more intimate than it did previously.
Seeing the upgrades in person, I really do think that the NCAA will be drooling to put a championship game in Jacksonville by 2020.

Impressive. I was hesitant to enthusiasm in the beginning, but enjoy now a hope that it will be a good long term investment for the city. I suspect it will be.
I've not seen it up close, so I don't know the structural ratios or details. I worry about a hurricane. Surely, with all the money invested, the structural engineers have built this thing so that it will not move like a sail when hit by a category four hurricane. I wonder if there are insurance premiums covering possible hurricane damage?
The video was quite the thing ... a huge TV screen. The screen should allow for some good advertising revenue I suspect.
Now we can get down to the business of winning games. The last football game I attended was the 1958 Thanksgiving game between Lee and Jackson. I can't remember who won.
Can you imagine a Wrestle mania type event? I really hope they market the heck out of those boards.
On a side note, are the pools heated? If not, I can't imagine them being useful for a Oct-December game.

They're heated, and they're Spec-tacular. Got to go in them Saturday night. Surprisingly not a lot of people were in them, despite the cabanas being packed. I wasn't letting that opportunity pass me by.

We have an AWESOME outdoor venue now that you can not find anywhere else. There is no other football stadium with swimming pools and Trigungus Video boards. I think we will attract an aray of events now.
I don't see how any one could doubt Kahns commitment to this city after that. Being there in person was amazing There were a lot of emotional people(myself included) during that video. It really does look like a brand new stadium. So proud to call J-ville my hometown.
Hopefully UF and UGA will change their minds about the seating for their game. Honestly with all of the letters they constantly send asking for Alumni money you'd think they'd use this as the perfect opportunity to get some big money from the cabana area and sky lounge area.
^ agreed and I think they will, but in a year or two once they can survey and get a good operating plan. Remember, it's billed as the "Biggest Cocktail Party of the South", so you don't want something happening right away that would hurt many reputations. And having been to both, there is definitely more of a party atmosphere that one weekend, so I think they're just stepping back and making sure they have their ducks in a row first. You can bet the first person who trips and falls within 1000' of the pool will most likely bring headlines of "drunken fans, dangerous pools". I'm excited about what's been done, but not enough that I know it won't last too long.
I was there when they unveiled the boards and I was slack-jawed in wonder the entire time. Quite spectacular, more than I expected. Kudos, can't wait for the football season!

Khan was a breath of fresh air for Jax. He's innovative and thinks outside of the box..IMO he is pushing the city to another level.

I'm real excited for this season! We're gonna look awesome on the national broadcasts. Now, can we get BofA to turn on the lights atop of their building?:)
Looking forward to seeing them in person. I have heard so much positive feedback. Khan is doing good things for Jacksonville.

ROTFLMFAO, peel back the layers, the toilet mess from the Super Bowl is still an issue, cannot be fixed without MAJOR "plumbing-rework", and many areas inside the club seats have no more than a coat of paint to cover up mold in many restrooms. Wall paper falling down, faulty sinks.
We can spend $63 million on giant pong boards, but we cannot work to improve the basic items in the stadium. Maybe we can build a retractable roof or solar panels next? Maybe a canal to allow Khan to park a boat right next to the stadium? Hotel connected to the stadium? Let's get some sticky proposals going!
Having been a season ticket holder the past 6 years and attended several games in the Club section I'm unaware of the "toilet issues" you refer to. What's the problem? I've never had any problems flushing and there seems to always be pressure in the faucets. Mold is going to be present in any structure open to the elements. I've never seen it in any places it shouldn't be... In fact I don't recall even seeing it on the outer structures.

Not in the club section bathrooms, I haven't either.
In the common-folk bathrooms, though, sometimes the fans are up too high and it blows pee splatter on my flip-flopped feet. Oh well.... FWP I suppose.

Can't say I've experienced this, but then again I don't usually wear flip-flops to the stadium :P I wouldn't necessarily call that a problem as much as excessive ventilation. Tear the stadium down the fans are too strong! hahaha
I have to agree that I haven't seen in problems with the restrooms in the 4 years I've been a season ticket holder. Wearing flip flops to the game - I'd worry about getting my toes stomped on trying to get a beer before the 3rd Quarter cut-off! :o
I'm still amazed at those video boards. I was talking to my season seat mates and we agreed we were watching the south board more. We sit closer to the north board and would look at it during the replay's and 1/2 time shows but that meant have to look over our shoulders somewhat. Now, from our seats the south board's resolution looks a hell of a lot better than the north.
^ on the resolution note. I believe the North board and north corner boards are still being fine tuned. I know they were only fully completed a few days before, they began testing before the entire thing was finished. I would imagine by next Friday (1st preseason game) all of the fine tuning will be complete and they'll look even better than during the unveiling!
