Post by: Steve on May 09, 2008, 02:36:06 PM
Downtown Vision will host representatives from JTA May 28 to talk about Downtown transit issues. The meeting’s at 9 a.m. in the training room of the Ed Ball Building. The JTA folks will talk about a revised trolley system, proposed bus shelters, a revised Bus Rapid Transit route, a proposed streetcar system, water-borne transportation and the proposed Jacksonville Transportation Center slated for the area around the Osborn Center.

Beloki, Not enough system choice is worse. For example fully bus reliant sustem is a disaster here. Mix sells in Wal-Mart, Target and also in Transit. Give the commuter a choice and the numbers will jump many fold over todays. Imagine the city covered by a giant quilt of transit, each bright color represents a different mode or choice. Like any good fabric, the more, or tighter the weave the higher the quality.

While the modes should not directly compete, they SHOULD compliment eachother, for example our BH50 or Beaches bus on JTB is complimented by the Commuter Expresses in the afternoon. Now if JTA would only "RE-THINK" the express. These are "Greyhound" or "Trailways" type COACHES, not buses. Thus imagine the different class we could appeal to with park-n-ride, served by deluxe coaches. Each coach has facing work tables, or seat back trays, video, restroom and a coffee/snack bar in the rear. Now imagine the executives learning to bus it to work... In fact they could WORK all the way to WORK! There are hundreds of untapped markets in this city and this is just one of them.

If I could mass transit into work, I could get caught up on all my reading, or work on the laptop and not haev to worry about driving.
