QuoteGov. Rick Scott and Charlie Crist are essentially tied 37-39 percent...partly because a little-known Libertarian candidate is sapping support from the Democratic challenger, a new poll indicates.

Libertarian Adrian Wyllie pulls 9 percent support, according to Quinnipiac University's survey, which shows Crist's 2 percentage-point lead would grow to 5 points without Wyllie on the ballot.

Little-polled until now, Wyllie's name appears to be an emerging and significant factor in the race.

"Wyllie is not, at this point, a serious contender to win the governorship. But he may have a great deal to say about who does win," Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll, said in a written statement.

With Wyllie on the ticket, Crist loses more support among self-identified independents (9 percentage points) than Scott (4 percentage points). Independents comprise about a quarter of Florida's vote.

From supporting medical marijuana to opposing most abortion restrictions, Wyllie's stand on social issues is closer to Crist's than Scott's. Wyllie has been more vocal than Crist about supporting a popular prescription-pot measure on the ballot —even though the measure is largely funded by Crist's employer, Orlando trial lawyer John Morgan.

"Virtually no one knows much about Wyllie," Brown said, referring to the 92 percent of voters who had no opinion of the Libertarian. "But there are a lot of Floridians who aren't keen on either of the major party candidates."

So are we're looking at a possible second term for Scott? Hmm....

The Democrat Party is ignoring her, they are so desperate to win the Governor's office that they are practically willing to sell their souls to win it.  The Republicans are probably still pissed off about how Crist acted when he was trying to get elected to Martinez's seat when he resigned from office and probably won't care to work with him on much of anything.

^ umm...Crist never resigned from office....he did decline to run again in 2010 and instead decided to pursue the Senate seat....Florida law does not require one to resign from a state office to run for a national one.

Yes, he did leave the Republican party in April 2010 and ran as an independent after it was clear that Rubio was the party favorite...is that what you meant?

Those are very high polling numbers for a Libertarian candidate.  I think they usually run about 3%.  Interesting.

What's interesting to me is how much these polling folks are ignoring Nan Rich, a *real* Democrat. Crist does have a primary, you know, although so many are trying their best to ignore this fact.

Is Charlie going to debate the woman? Are the feminists uninterested in *that* common respect question ??? Is there no sexist aspect to his apparent refusal to do so, or the lack of press controversy over the refusal?
