Median household income is meaningless unless state and local taxes are factored in. After all, making $100,000 annually is a lot less in New York than it is in Florida. Also, what would you factor down states that pay less food stamps? The idea is NOT to get recipients hooked on it. You are supposed to give them just enough that they will WANT to go out and get a job.
