The first wave of commercials have hit the airwaves on the Treasure Toast against All Aboard Florida.

Pretty silly ad. I wonder if they can point to any cases where increased passenger train service ruined a community?

Is it just me or did they hire the same director who did Sharknado to shoot this?

notice they put a slow moving freight train in the clip?  Ask California how rail has ruined it.  Must be why they are building more, and more.  The LA to San Diego route, and others are very well used.
I think many don't realize the tracks have been there for a very long time, and the basis more most of the early development in Florida.  I guess Flagler and Plant were just ahead of their time.

I think he's been busy making Sharknado 2 ;)

This is so stupid that I expect it will work against them. It does prove one valid point however; some people should never be left alone with a video camera.

Big Choo Choo....that's cute.  That shaking is quite dramatic.  I've been to Bold City quite a few times and I don't recall my beer vibrating off of the table when a train goes by and those trains pass within a few feet of the place.

how does adding trains decrease the habitat of the panther?

It doesn't. In fact, rail is the solution to their listed "concern" that "Transportation projects continue to shrink panther habitat in south Florida."

Clearly we should be focusing on 8-lane highways instead of railway if we want to limit environmental impact.....

Every time a train passes Aardwolf I fall off my chair.  But that's not because of the train, it's the beer.  :P

I like how they held their rally under an expensive looking highway overpass.

And the average age at the rally looked to be about a hundred. What are they worried about??

I noticed the age of the rally attendees as well.  I suspect that they are gaming for the Grandma sympathy vote.  I've lived near railroads before and after a week or so you get used to the train going by and don't notice it when it goes by.  Does anyone know if the higher speed passenger trains are quieter than a slow freight train?  Even if the passenger train is just as loud as a freight train, the noise won't be around as long.

Haha. So AAF is going to kill tourism?  Southern California beaches seem to do okay.  Here's the Pacific Ocean from my seat on Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner back in 2011:

I personally think that Big Choo Choo sounds a lot better than All Aboard Florida. Can we petition for a name change? I would ride Big Choo Choo all day long.

I feel like this could be a response to that ad:

"Big Choo Choo" is made up by grandparents who have to sit with their grandkids and watch "Thomas The Tank Engine" all day.

Only in this case his "evil rival" was the arrogant Diesel

All Aboard Florida would just have to announce that the Thomas the Tank Engine Fair would be in Stuart and sponsored by them (It's currently near Bradenton every year) for the next 5 years and the AAF protest would die the next day. Kids, hearing that their grandparents were holding up the arrival of Thomas would stage a counter protest and the noise would end immediately.

Hey AAF, there is an idea. Throw them Treasure Coasters a bone?
