Title: New to the boards, Candidate for City Council District 7 in 2015
Post by: nurseserver on July 10, 2014, 01:20:14 PM
Hi, my name is Tracy Rigdon, I'm new to the boards, and I'm also running for Jacksonville City Council District 7 in 2015. I'm a resident of Downtown's Urban Core, born and raised in Jax and I look forward to getting to know you all here!

Welcome! It's neat that you live in the Core, I think you're on the forefront of a wave. This forum has many knowledgeable members who are passionate about downtown Jax, including myself. I don't live DT, but often I wish I did. Maybe one day...

Welcome Tracy! I lived Downtown for about 4  1/2 years (just moved to Riverside,) but I loved it and can't wait to get back!

Congratulations on your decision to run! It looks as though (for the moment anyway) you are running against all Democrats (a large number in fact) as NPA. It's a bold strategy and one that I sincerely hope pays off. Not having to deal with the primary process could prove cost effective and image positive, you may swing the growing number of independents, and will ensure your inclusion in the general election ballot. I like it. Best of luck!

taylormiller - being NPA doesn't exempt Tracy (or anyone) from the City primary - the primary is "open", all candidates regardless of party, or no party, are on the same ballot.  Then the top 2 vote-getters meet in the General Election (unless someone gets 50% + 1 vote in the Primary).

And, Tracy - welcome to the boards and to the election.  Isn't every resident of District 7 running for that Council seat?  :)
