Oh and while we're at it, note that it's not in a street, and it's not competing with automobiles, the excuse JTA is sure to dust off to feed to the city and the media in the newest round of 'We'd rather buy buses and asphalt.'
But how cool is this little story?
Up in the northeast corner of the USA is the mammoth 'Seashore Trolley Museum,' located in Kennebunkport, Maine. For a number of years they worked on a vintage 1905 open-car (think Disney without the animal) and finally rolled out a fully restored car #838, of the New Haven, Connecticut Electric Railways.
A gentleman that lives near the museum recalled how when he was a student in Connecticut he always liked to ride on them. As the conversation grew so did the nostalgic look back, so the museum invited him and his family up to the museum for a day on the trolley's. He loved the idea and jumped on the chance to not only ride, but take the instruction and actually operate the cars. He turned out to be a natural at the controller and grinning from ear to ear said this was 'The greatest thing to happen to me since being elected president.' George H. W. Bush, turned out to be a president and a trolley fan and operator!
