Title: Anti-bullying bill tries to keep peace in school
Post by: Steve on May 05, 2008, 01:39:21 PM
In June 2005, 15-year-old Cape Coral resident Jeff Johnston hanged himself, leaving a note that said he "would never get over the eighth grade."

What he had internalized was relentless bullying by a schoolmate that drove him to take his own life.

Last week the Florida Senate unanimously passed a bill named the Jeffrey Johnston Stand Up for All Students Act, aimed at preventing that kind of school bullying.

You know - we couldn't make commuter rail happen, but thank god this passed.  Apparently, this "bullying" is a new problem facing our students.  Thank god this wasn't an issue when I went to school.

No one tried to blow up your school either (I assume, anyway). Today's bully is often tomorrow's convict. Maybe if it were nipped in the bud more often, there wouldn't be as many convicts.
