No winner in Disney World monorail cab auction

You still have a chance to own a giant piece of Disney World history -- if you can fit the bill, that is.

A 1971 Mark IV Red Monorail cab car that transported millions of guests to Walt Disney World in the 1970s and 1980s is still up for auction on eBay after no bids were accepted from the first posting.

The initial auction for the rare and large piece of Disney World history closed Tuesday afternoon with 66 offers, but no winning bid. It is not know what the highest bid was in the initial auction.

Locally-based Theme Park Connection, which specializes in buying, selling and trading Disney items, has relisted the monorail cab. It still has a "buy it now price" of $189,000.

The posting says the vehicle has all original components still attached, including doors, control consoles and seating.

"Most of the cars and trains from the Mark IV monorails were destroyed, so finding a full car for sale in such condition is impossible," the listing boasts.

The design was developed by Disney Imagineer Bob Gurr and the Mark IV model was a straddle-type monorail train. Ten trains were built by Martin Marietta in 1969 and cost about $6 million each.

The Mark IV model monorail serviced Walt Disney World from the grand opening of the resort in 1971 to the arrival of the Mark VI monorails starting in 1989.

The Walt Disney World Monorail System is one of the most used monorail systems in the world and is an iconic part of the history of Walt Disney World.

Currently, Walt Disney World operates 12 Mark VI monorail trains on three lines of service.

Not too sure what someone would do with it, but it would be kind of cool to have not gonna lie :)

Can it be easily adapted for the Skyway?
Could be VIP/reserved/novelty car for paying passengers during special events, lol.

Incidentally, yesterday I heard yet another tale of Disney originally wanting to build Disney World in the jax area. This one had an interesting twist. Story goes that everything was nearly finalized and then at the eleventh hour JEA refused to allow Disney to build its own utilities infrastructure and poof everything evaporated.  ;D

I've heard these rumors about Disney and Jax, but I remember as a child watching Walt Disney talking on television (no doubt on a black-and-white set) about building his dream project in Florida, and he was always pointing at central Florida,  not our region. He envisioned a large domed city, a type of FutureWorld.

I remember seeing a similar video inside an area of the park at Disneyland in Anaheim.

EPCOT, or Experimental Prototype City of Tomorrow.  Until the pricing on building a climate controlled, domed city came in, I guess.  There was a diorama and big presentation about it at the 1964 World's Fair in New York. Urban core, then a green belt of parks, surrounded by the homes and stores.  All under dome, climate controlled, centrally managed parks.  I was fascinated by the concept when I was 12.  Now, I think it's kind of creepy to have to go outside your city to breathe fresh, unprocessed air.  :-)

Seeing how Jacksonville received an "F" for Particle Air Pollution, domed processed air might be the better choice.  ;)

Technology was not advanced enough in the 70s for a practical designed dome.

Wow I didnt think it was all too bad. I mean I have seen areas where you could literally see the air pollution. Interesting though thanks for sharing the link
