Hi All,
Thought some may want to tune in to this.
The popular History Channel tv show 'American Pickers' will feature a Jacksonville location & personality tomorrow night (Wednesday, May 7th) @ 9pm.
John Grant-Dooley, a long time family friend, former owner of 5 Points building & theater, Fans & Stoves Antique Mall, Riverside urban pioneer in the 80's (yes newbies, it was once sketchy), and property collector, has amassed an enormous collection of estate sale, garage sale, and auction treasures & junk over the past 40 years. He has several warehouses full, and American Pickers filmed at his Myrtle Avenue warehouse a few months ago.
John has a salty personality, part hill billy, part flaming liberal, and 100% Tennessee Volunteer fan, he should make for good television. All he would say to me about the outcome of show is that he looks like fool. : )
He currently owns Ugly Junk, an antique/junk shop on Blanding Blvd near San Juan, and a worldwide restaurant decorating business.
That's my plug.
This is pretty cool not gonna lie!!! Setting the DVR as we speak!
Bill, Thanks for the heads up. I remember going into the store in 5 points. Will check it out later after today's
CRA/DIA meeting and Art Walk.
Did anyone watch? I watched last night what I thought was him and/or the correct episode, but couldn't officially tie back to Jacksonville based on the file footage and that they only said that the were in Florida picking for Dollywood.....
Yeah, they never mentioned Jacksonville, and the warehouse could have been anywhere.
But the guy was a bit "out there" - but that's what the show likes.
