Title: Picture: Laura Street before FSCJ's parking lot
Post by: thelakelander on May 02, 2014, 08:04:39 PM
Came across this picture on Ebay. It's Laura Street, near Hogans Creek.  Karpeles can be seen in the background. Evidently, this image was taken somewhere around 1928.

Such a clear picture. Amazing. Thanks for sharing it.

Are all these old pictures so pricey? Is a picture copyrighted like a book? Makes you wonder how ownership is transferred and passed down.

The front bus says "Murray Hill Special". I like the billboards in the background "Fisher-Buick" and there is an original style gas station behind the last bus.

Those Faegol buses were considered very advanced for their time. They were called "Safety Buses" as they didn't roll over when heavily loaded. The fact that Jacksonville Traction had them was probably a source of pride for the city as they were not cheap back when they came out.

Fageol has some great history. Their truck division is now Peterbuilt. Their buses became Flxible. Flxible was a common sight in many metro areas as their buses were bought by many transit firms until the 1990's.
