I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed, but the facade to the U-Haul building downtown is being upgraded. I haven't had a chance to speak with the workers, but from what I've seen they are:
- Adding faux brick covers to the main vertical supports within the building (visible through the glass)
- Patching the exterior of the building and painting the exterior
Now if they could only find a way to prevent the homeless people, I see on a daily basis, from living in the storage units.... ;)
I used them last week, not realizing the homeless situation. It is the worst uhaul facility in jax, if you need a truck no problem except there is usually only one attendant that can help, but it took 4 days to get working cards there and you can tell they are lax with security when the manager isn't there. A flagship store this is not.
I have some of my things stored there. Never really had any issues getting in or out. Homeless people are around, not sure if they actually live in the units or not.

Yea, I have seen them lving in there, as well. Whatever it takes, I guess.
I live in one of the buildings nearby and see them climbing in and out of the units every morning / night. They have someone lock them in and then unlock them in the morning when the shelter kicks their friends out.

Sounds safe.
Wow - that would make for an interesting episode of Storage Wars....
wow. that is crazy. I am guessing they aren't on the climate controlled floors since they are more expensive.
Typically I see them on the ground floors through the windows along the sidewalks (usually around 7am). I'd say there are probably 8-12 of them, but that's just what I see... it's pretty busy in there in the mornings lol.
As for if they're in the climate control area's I don't know. I always assumed the whole building was climate controlled.
