Title: Obamacare having a fantastic month
Post by: JeffreyS on April 15, 2014, 08:35:00 PM
What a month for Obamacare.

First Obamacare kills it on the sign ups.

http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2014/04/15/301820882/the-7-5-million-insured-through-obamacare-are-only-part-of-the-story (http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2014/04/15/301820882/the-7-5-million-insured-through-obamacare-are-only-part-of-the-story)

Then the CBO report finds it will cost less and cover more people than previously projected.

Now the Republican Oracles (the private sector) are weighing in that Obamacare is going better than they hoped.  The insures are saying the sign ups are younger and healthier than expected, people taking advantage of employer plans are expanding, and the Insurance companies that passed on the first round are kicking themselves and scrambling to get on board.

Opponents at least are starting to realize they are not going to be able to completely hide from Obamacare's success.

QuoteMorning Plum: Republicans at odds over whether to acknowledge Obamacare beneficiaries
BY GREG SARGENT
April 16 at 8:47 am
As we've already seen (see Mitch McConnell and Americans for Prosperity), some Republicans have adopted a creative response to mounting Obamacare enrollment and other signs that the law is more or less on track as intended: Simply pretend the law's beneficiaries don't exist.
That may be changing, however. Now some Republicans are grappling with how far to go in acknowledging the existence of the law's beneficiaries, and, since doing so is getting harder to avoid,

Gallup is seeing it too providing unbiased analysis that the amount of uninsured people is shrinking. Just in case anyone is buying the GOP nonsense that somehow it is all part of a Census illusion that will come out in the fall.

QuoteStates embracing Obamacare are doing a better job of covering the uninsured, surveys show
BY JASON MILLMAN
April 16 at 10:29 am
New surveys out Wednesday morning provide a glimpse into just how many Americans have gained insurance since the Obamacare health insurance marketplaces opened in October.
First, Gallup reports that states which fully embraced the law by setting up their own exchanges and expanding their Medicaid programs saw their uninsured rate drop this year three times faster than the states that didn't.

Gallup just last week reported that the uninsured rate had dropped from 17.1 percent to 15.6 percent between the fourth quarter of 2013 and the first quarter of 2015 — the lowest rate since 2008. It's not all that surprising that states which have embraced the law have seen a larger decline in the uninsured rate. They have more resources for outreach and greater enthusiasm for getting people enrolled.

I have a friend who just signed up for the new healthcare. There was actually plan that he was offered that is free based on his income (he's a server), but he opted to get another plan. I think its working better than most critics thought so far.

I primarily work as an independent contractor and I signed up a day before the deadline. I think I'm pretty healthy so don't expect to use it, other than regular checkups, etc. However, just in case I end up being wrong, some of the plans were too decent to pass up on, so I opted in.

Oh Mr. Howard my advice is if you have been against Obamacare the time is now to just avoid the subject. The facts just lined up against you.

Even Mitch McConnell is now desperate to keep Obamacare. Granted only in Kentucky with the hope of calling it something else.

Your wish will soon be granted.  As health insurance companies exit the business, the government will step in and become your "single payer" system.  The VA health care fiasco is instructional as it gives us a small snap shop of what we can look forward to in the future.  Or can't you see that? You libs will be trying to live down Obamacare for the next 100 years, assuming we survive that long.  You won't be able to run/hide from it.  You own it.

Stephey said "Fun fact: Did you know Jim Jones was a Republican who supported Richard Nixon?"

Only a spiteful lib would research the political parties of monsters from the past.  Your lack of moral character hasn't changed much I see.  Still nasty as ever.  I would take Nixon over Obama any day.

Just for the record I have yet too meet an armed service retiree that would give up their tri-care coverage in favor of a plan they could buy on the open market.  Last time I checked that was a government run medical insurance program, so well liked , even conservative luddites embrace it.

Actually Tricare is contracted out to civilian health insurance companies.  For the South region, it is Humana.  Other contractors include Health Net and United Health Care for other regions.  These companies had to compete for the contract to provide tricare service.  The free market system works.  See how that works?  The government couldn't manage this.  Hence, they contract it out to companies that know what they are doing.  If they didn't tricare would be a bigger mess than the VA which does not contract out services.  Nice try.

^ contracted out by and managed by who?

wait...you mean the same Federal government that set up health care exchanges...with plans provided by private companies.

Wow! What a sore loser.
And that's what they said about Medicare, but I'm sure glad my elderly family have it.
Oh and by the way the Insurance Industry is an evil empire at least in my book.

It's actually going to play out the opposite way and in very short order you could even say it already has started. Meaning the GOP is already trying rebrand and take credit for Obamacare. Perhaps they should it was their idea they just have to get the people they fooled into thinking it was bad into thinking some small tweak makes it theirs and makes it wonderful. Good luck with that.

I love this, it's "free", no one pays for it.
