The Florida Department of Transportation wants to widen the Fuller Warren Bridge and the community isn't too happy about it. After taking the time to gain a better understanding of FDOT's plans and the community's concerns, the Jacksonville City Council responds. What they have to say will pleasently surprise urban core advocates.

excellent letter!
Very well written, council! Now if you could apply this same thoughtful, smart growth, citizen-minded reasoning to your decisions about growth and zoning within the City of Jacksonville, I would truly be impressed. If you can stand up to FDOT with a list of reasonable demands, then why do you give into private developers and let them run all over you?
Way to go, City Council. Well phrased. Especially the shared use path! This would be huge, and would make a statement to all those flowing through the city on the expressway that we value our local core and its citizens.
April Fools?
nice
Really glad to see that they addressed those light towers. They are totally out of place in an urban area and make the surrounding neighborhoods look like something out of a zombie movie.
Im impressed. Very good
Kudos to the City Council for listening to the concerns of the community. Hopefully something workable will come of this.
WOW
AMAZING letter!
The elimination of the retention pond in favor of adding a parking lot for 5 Points is a perfect idea! I really hope that happens.
Interesting that all 4 of the City Council members who are on the Transportation Planning Organization signed the letter. And 9 signatures is 2 less than a majority of Council.
This is great to see. What kind of power could this letter have?
It could/should lead FDOT to go above and beyond the typical "no-frills" roadway projects they've given us in the past. This is a great move by council. The interchange and bridge are essentially a gateway to our community and State of Florida. We need to get this project right. This is the type of proactive leadership that advances the quality of life of a community.
Agreed. This is exactly the kind of leadership that moves us forward. Well done City Council.

I'm guessing not much. Is FDOT proposing to take any COJ ROW? I don't know all the specifics.
You'd be amazed. FDOT does try to work with communities to integrate their projects into them. The Overland Bridge is an example. Originally, there was not going to be an interchange at Atlantic Boulevard. A big reason that was added was because the community wanted it.
