Thanks Lake,

I have been saying, no plan, no tax.

This looks like BJP Phase Two.

What constitutes a "mobility improvement". Crosswalks?

Mobility improvements would probably be things like sidewalk extensions, sidewalk connections, curb ramp improvements, bus stop improvements, maybe bike lanes or paths, etc. along a corridor.

I've sent a request for more information concerning corridor mobility and countywide transit hubs.

I also wonder if all of these road projects will be a step above current our current minimal roadway design standards? In other words, will they be context sensitive?

The only specific item north of I-10 is the Soutel Transit hub.  This list is heavily weighted to the southern half of the county.  I'm not impressed.  Let's just keep enough of the gas tax to maintain and improve the bus system.

Initially, I was in favor of extending the gas tax.  After seeing this list, I'm not so sure.  I would prefer to see JTA stay out of the road building business, and focus solely on transit.

Projects that involve rebuilding urban streets to become more context sensitive can be handled by COJ.

So gas tax is covering the Kernan Road north of Atlantic. COJ is covering it from JTB to UNF Alumni Hall.

QuoteKernan Boulevard (Atlantic Boulevard to McCormick Road) --   $16.7 million

Richard Clark had also inserted $7 million for "Kernan Road Improvements - UNF" in the COJ budget that was just approved.

There's one more:
QuoteMcDuff Avenue and Fifth Street Phase III -- $2.2 million
Sounds like it would finish the improvements between Huron and Melson - adding a center left turn lane, curbs, and sidewalks.  The rest of McDuff and 5th already got that upgrade.

But, yeah, not much in the northwest.

Only two in Arlington, and one of those is just "design" money.

JTA has big plans for funding from extended gas tax

QuoteThe extension of Jacksonville's local gas tax will allow the Jacksonville Transportation Authority to plan more mass transit projects and pull some Better Jacksonville Plan projects off the shelf.

Heard at a recent meeting (Arlington CPAC?) that the gas tax project list includes improvements as part of Operation Dolphin  (or is it the Dolphin Project?) near JU - focusing on the University Boulevard / Merrill Road intersection and possibly some medians nearby.

That is an area in need of some assistance, and JU is making a concerted effort to expand and develop in that area, so this sounds like a logical choice for some of the funds.

One of the things they want to do is get all the overhead wires placed underground.  That will be quite an expensive undertaking.

What an amazing focus on much less $$ intensive mass transit projects! Got to give the good ol' COJ kudos' at least for being consistently brain dead. Please tell me there is another list, and the 'other' list doesn't focus 100% on buses. Oh I know, I'm deluded, its the damn water in Lake Michigan that has me so messed up... Besides that it was frickin freezing the other day!
