QuotePizza chain Sbarro files for bankruptcy
The Sbarro pizza restaurant chain filed for bankruptcy court protection Monday, less than three weeks after it was forced to close more than 40% of its U.S. locations.

It must be because of food trucks....
Is Sbarro still open at the Landing or did they close already?
Seems like Sbarro's failure is it's inability to adapt. I'm not saying that indoor malls are extinct by no means and I don't think they're going anywhere, but 2014 is definitively not the golden age for indoor malls; That would be when video arcades was the place to be. Sbarro shoehorned itself to indoor mall food courts and airports.
Look at it's other pizza competitors; Domino's, Pizza Hut, Papa John's, as they all have their own buildings with delivery. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see why Sbarro is failing. Plus IMO their quality is very questionable. I bought a slice at the Avenues some months ago, and it wasn't even heated, as it was lukewarm.

It's closed. There's a Mom & Pop pizza place there now.

Not just Sbarro, the entire landing is failing because of food trucks. ::)
Someone should have listened to Ron.

Perhaps you are on to something TheCat.
A pizza chain bankruptcy?! Guess we all should've paid more attention to WLA...
Sbarro pizza is pretty bad as far as pizza goes. I don't know how anyone eats their stuff. I think the cheap Totinos frozen pizzas you buy are better than Sbarro.
^^^I can't disagree with you.
I travel a lot and see Sbarro in a lot of airports. You know the food is nasty when it's the ONLY food place that doesn't have a line in most airports. It's no wonder they're bankrupt - people aren't going to pay $10+ for lukewarm pasta, frozen pizza, and brown, wilty salads. Ew.
I can't remember the last time I saw a Sbarro besides that one episode of The Office

When I was in high school, my best friend worked weekends at the Sbarro at the Avenues. This played a part in my to this day only fond memories of the place, as we'd get stoned and eat the pizza he'd bring from work. Drugs are the only way to make their food edible.
But you shouldn't do drugs :)
^ I wonder if the Avenues location survives the cut.

I think that's where they may keep their remaining locations open - for the travelers. Not just the airports, but a lot of the travel plazas on various turnpikes have them too. Mall locations are pretty dead, but when you're on the road and need to stop for fuel and food, sometimes you just have to take what you can get that's open and serving.
Even if it's a $10 plate of lukewarm pasta *
shudders*

It seems like they are doing pretty good there, patronage-wise.
Sbarro in years past was more known as an Italian buffet and they still offer a limited buffet today.
As far as the pizza goes, I have had some bad pizza in my days and Sbarro isn't that bad. However if you stop by at 345 when the lunch batch has been on the warming table for two hours then yes, it isn't the best.
If you stop by during lunch when everything is fresh, it's adequate.
^^^I think that you're on to something about going around lunch time. I've been on both ends of that spectrum at the Avenues; Lunchtime, it was pretty good, and afterwards I was like what happened?
