There should be an "oldies" based radio station in the Jacksonville market for the baby boomers and
retirees that reside here. Doo Wop and oldies from the 50's through about 1975. The Beach at 1600 does
not play much music anymore-going towards talk plus nobody listens to AM much for music. WSOS in
St. Augustine does not really play original good time oldies. Eagle plays 70's stuff. Not a good "oldies"
radio station in Jacksonville. Comments and feedback?
Bobby.......sure why not. You know that that era was more diverse than mere years. Doo Wop, Detroit, Pop, Hard Rock....This crowd might not be very sympathic though. Seems that when we did a survey of ages the mainstay of this group is the 20s and 30s. Oldies to some of them is music from the 90s.
I wonder what kind of market there would be for that. "Oldies" radio stations began in the early 70s and focused on music from the 50s and early 60s; at the time the music was at most about 20 years old. As time marched on they started focusing more on the 60s and adding music from the 70s as well. Quite a span. Today, the people who grew up on that music are getting older, and 20 years ago was the 90s. The classical "Oldies" are now 40-60 years old; I have to imagine the audience is somewhat limited.
I am in my early 30's and love oldies music. At this point, I have accepted that terrestrial radio will never have oldies stations anymore. Thats why I listen to Pandora.

I'm 36, and I love oldies music! My mom played it when I was a kid during the eighties in Brooklyn NY, and I was hooked ever since. I have 23 various oldies music artists in my CD collection. I remember '96.9 Cool FM' oldies station before they changed to the Eagle. I'm glad that we have an oldies station, although Xfinity's Music Choice 'Solid Gold Oldies' is a good option. Oldies are for baby boomers? There goes that demographic theory out the window. :)

All good comments but still not a good "oldies" based radio station in Jacksonville for target audience of
baby boomers and retirees. Most major markets have one for variety. Jacksonville lacks. Comments?
A lot of stations have dropped the "Oldies" format for the "Classic Hits" format. I think Jax has one or two of those already. 96.9 maybe? At any rate, I'm sure if the providers felt they could make money off a traditional "Oldies" station, they would. Radio stations make their money from ads, not from ratings, so even with good ratings a lot of programming gets the ax if it can't pull in ad revenue.
I am a true sucker for the big band music so if you want really good classics from the 20s and up 90.9 jones college radio is a great station to listen to... No doubt my favorite.
