Department of the Interiors: Hawkers in Five Points

Hawkers just opened in the Five Points neighborhood, giving a new life to the formerly cursed retail spaces which have never been able to take off (not even at their openings) We thought you would enjoy a mini pictorial of the interior!  Join us after the jump to see the insides of this asian street food cafe.

Just waiting for the lines to diminish...

The lines are not going to diminish.  The food is too good.

One of the partners said today that last week they exceeded the business of their Orlando location that has been open for two years.  He is excited and overwhelmed with the energy of their location in 5 Points.

He also said that they are taking steps to moderate the noise level by putting up some sound absorbing materials.

I was given a wait time of 90 minutes on Friday evening. I gave them my phone number and told them I wad going to grab a drink down the street. 35 minutes, and halfway through my first drink, later I got a call saying my table was ready. The service and food would have been worth the 90 minutes, but they were just being conservative so they didn't over promise.

Ennis, you should have waited it out on Friday!!!

The Five Points area is, and always has been, so unstoppably cool. Just the way the streets and buildings are laid out, traffic and ped flow, park area, etc. You add in some good restaurant/entertainment options and it's an instant success.

Yeah, I've been twice and both times they have overestimated the time it would take to get a table.  Something I appreciate.  Much better than waiting longer than the estimate.

Oh, and loved the food both times.  Great place and a concept that the area certainly lacked.

Love it!   By the way, if you see available seats at the counter/bar they are first-come first-serve.

They should have a 2 roti per person minimum they are just so good.

I passed by there on lunch today and it was super packed. I was going to make a post asking about this place.

Hawkers may have become my favorite restaurant.  The food is wonderful and the building renovation fabulous.  It reminds me of New York City.  Such a great addition to the hood.

LOL, the lines always diminish once the luster wears off. The top 10 restaurants in Jacksonville all have walk-up sit down service, because they are consistent in their product. Only open for a few weeks, their luster will fade eventually too.

The food is delicious, tried it the other day and was impressed. Best Asian food in town.

Been twice for lunch and once for dinner and give it a solid B.

The rehab is nice, but at some point they are going to have to address the hard surfaces and how they bounce sound.  It is somewhat better with the windows open, but that is only a four month out of the year solution.

The food has been above average and about where it should be for a city this size.  The comparisons to a NYC eatery are a bit of hyperbolic enthusiasm, but that's OK too.  It will get better once the staff gets used to being there.

On the good front, heard from one of the owners this weekend that sales are already projected to exceed their other store which means that they will have a nice long run in 5 Points.
