More new stuff headed to Baymeadows.
QuoteThe Chicago area-based Patel Brothers "Celebrating Our Food ... Our Culture" grocery chain plans to open a Jacksonville store this spring at 9551 Baymeadows Road.
Director Rakesh Patel, a member of the family that owns the business, said once the permit is approved, construction would take three months to complete.
Patel estimates the store will be a $1 million investment, including construction, equipment and inventory. It would be the fourth Patel Brothers store in the state.
"The Indian population has grown. We are already in Tampa and we are in Orlando, so we said let's take a look at the population (growth) and move on," he said.
"We need a bigger population, and that is why we chose Jacksonville," he said.

That's awesome!
There is a decent Indian market/grocer in town called Kalyaan Market. Its on Phillips near the Avenues Theater. Asked my Indian friend in Chicago about Patel Brothers and he said its not that great, but his dad owns Kalyaan Market, so he may be a little biased. There is definitely a good sized Indian population here in town.
Looks like it will be next to the Indian restaurant on Baymeadows. There's a small Indian grocery around the corner from Dunkin Donuts in the W-D shopping center nearby as well. But Baymeadows does have a large Indian population. So this should be good.
When a Chicago-based grocer is looking at Jacksonville for expansion... can't be a bad thing with all the places in between they can choose.
The more ethnic food/grocery, the better imo
Construction has been approved.

Maybe Jacksonville can start getting some more ethnic neighborhoods beyond what we have today.
Just like in Chicago which has its Chinatown, Little Village (Puerto Rican), Greektown, North Pulaski (Polish), Little Vietnam, etc.
I love trying out the new foods.
Tonight, I noticed the old Steak & Ale at Baymeadows and I-95 has something going in it. Does anyone know more about this project?
Perhaps Steak & Ale. They are making a comeback and they opened first one again in Panama City.
