For nearly two years, it has been one of the most controversial infill development projects in recent years, symbolizing the cultural and demographic shift taking over urban neighborhoods nationwide. Sucessfully, finding their way through the obstacle courses, stumbling blocks and challenges thrown their way, Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers finally opens for business in Avondale.

Congratulations to any business.
I drove by last night and it looked like the rest of the businesses.
It is certainly an improvement over the crappy ass old "historic" gas station... 8)
Walked by the other day are really loved it!
Oh Joy!!
Caught the Redeye flight from LAX-ATL last Thursday evening with a guy that helps get these Mellow Mushrooms open on the East Coast and was coming to JAX for this one. He seemed to be really pumped for these franchise owners just knowing all the hoops they had to jump through.
Are there any bikeracks?
Or did they have to be sacrificed?
I drove thru the area today and unfortunately it took me 2 hours to go 2 blocks due to the traffic and riff raff in the area due to this pizza restaurant. Of course we knew this was going to be the case.

yeah. and already the sinkholes have started swallowing children and small dogs. Its terrible. And its not like no one was warned.
lol...pandemonium
I, for one, welcome our new Pizza overlords.
Anyone know their hours? It's not posted on this location's website for some reason.
There are bike racks in front AND outdoor seating.......
Good crowd there Saturday night, great to see the place happening and an improvement for sure.
Pee - Hours are 11AM to 2 AM, most nights.
Went by about 6 last night. Parking was atrocious. I had to walk almost ten feet to get to the door. Beautiful place. Hugh selection on tap. The Mighty Meaty pie was very good. Very personable folks working the bar. I like it...Good job Mellow
Went by around 2pm yesterday. I couldn't believe my eyes there were 14 open spots to choose from at the Shoppes. :o
The city also restriped the areas along St. Johns Avenue. If caught parking in an area not designated for free parking, they were writing tickets, and rightly so.
So all the panic was for nothing ? An ugly eyesore , the old gas station, is now replaced with a nicely designed building, Looks as if RAP and We Love Avondale have just proven why they are no longer needed and have worn out their usefulness.

What parts were restriped?

Jesus, the humanity! That's just not acceptable, where's some new anti-business legislation to fix this problem?
How interesting that a former Clay County head Planner, Beltway Booster/Brannon Chaffee Sector Plan et al, all the while residing in Avondale, would become so intricately involved.
Almost as if a Carl Hiaasen plot......
It's not that weird when you figure that, if you get caught with your pants down posting racist drivel, you just start a new screename and continue right on. How many user id's is one allowed to have on MJ anyway?

LOL, first week, still cold outside, wait for summer months and more people venture outdoors. Hopefully that will also mean more bike use. We shall see.

I'm beginning to come to this same conclusion.

Yes, it is a awesomely designed building, just like Black Sheep, Goozlepipe & Guttyworks, etc. However, I still find the original plan with the adaptive reuse of the old station and the beer garden to be far superior as it would have been unlike anything else around.
I'm surprised to see they've had the windows open every time I've gone by. I thought keeping the windows closed (for at least the foreseeable future) was one of their concessions to RAP/WLA.
Did you know that last month was the three year anniversary of the opening of Mellow Mushroom in Avondale? Many of you will remember the two years of drama that surrounded the plans for this restaurant to oper, the push back from some locals who simply did not want it here and the steadfast and patient determination of it's owner to work with locals to see his dream come real. Since I live in Avondale and often walk to munch or pizza at Mellow, I would like to say first hand that the restaurant has been a great success and is a much needed asset and investment into what I like to call our "mini downtown". Bonus, the pizza is great and the restaurant child friendly which is excellent, considering the growing amount of young families moving into Avondale making it more and more vibrant. Mellow Mushroom, glad you are here.
