Is there a page somewhere that would instruct newbies and some of us (ME!) who have been reading a while how to actually post? I mean, I see the buttons above, but they don't really explain how to post. One of the things that bugged me til someone told me about it is that you cannot post a picture unless it is stored on some other photo website. Where is this explained to posters? :)
And I still can't quite figure out how to imbed a video. Is that some sort of trade secret? :o
Thanks a bunch! Love the site!!!
To embed a You Tube video... get the "Embed Code" from the video. Copy it.
It looks like this... I like to paste the entire code and delete it later...
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/UCV8SCCK5jc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
To post the video you only need this part...
www.youtube.com/embed/UCV8SCCK5jc
Click the "Insert Flash" button on the far left above the emoticons.... it will put this on the page...
flash=200,200][/flash
Paste the embed code beween the brackets...
flash=200,200]www.youtube.com/embed/UCV8SCCK5jc[/flash
Remove the word "embed" and replace with a "v"
flash=200,200]www.youtube.com/v/UCV8SCCK5jc[/flash
Finally change the "200,200 to the proper size from the original code.
iframe width="420" height="315"
flash=420,315]www.youtube.com/v/UCV8SCCK5jc[/flash

ALWAYS PREVIEW!! 8)
Holy Bat, Crapman - that's complicated. Much easier on a vBulletin Board I'm on - just paste the "imbed" code. (watch out folks, we're getting into the weeds here). What happens if you just do that?
Maybe so... but it is what we have. I have not figured out how to post videos outside of the You Tube genre.

;D :D ;D :D :) ;D :) ;D Charles, that was funny.
BridgeTroll, thanks for posting the instructions even if they are complicated! :o ???
At least now I've got the info...the next test will be when I'm ready to post a video. Thanks again.
It looks complicated... but once you do it once or twice it really is not too bad. 8)
ok, but how do you start a new thread? the instructions say there is a tab for that, but I don't see it
First, find the subforum you want to create your new thread in. For example, click on this link to access the downtown subforum:
http://www.metrojacksonville.com/forum/index.php/board,3.0.html
In the right corner, right above the subforum title section, just click on the tab (highlighted in blue) that's labeled "New Topic".
How do you post a cartoon?
Thanks

QuotePosting photos in photo forum threads

Many new photography forum participants don't know how to post, or embed, an image within a forum message. The process is quite simple and the method is similar for most forums. The image must first be uploaded to a server such as at an online photo hosting site (http://www.digicamhelp.com/processing-photos/photo-hosting/photo-hosting-sites/ ) .
To post an image, use its full URL
(http://www.digicamhelp.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/copyurl-300x221.jpg)
Next, highlight the full address (URL), copy the URL and then paste it into the subject area in a forum post. For the image to appear, you MUST include the .jpg extension.
Generally, you should get the URL from the image itself, not the address bar of a browser.
For example, below is the full URL to a thumbnail photo in the Digicamhelp Photo Galleries. One space has been added after the http: so you can see the how the text is supposed to appear (you wouldn't normally add a space).
http: //www.digicamhelp.com/gallery/thumbs/256-graceful-goose.jpg
When the correct URL is posted in a thread, the image will appear.
This method is the most commonly used in photography forums, but not all forums use it. Some require code placed around the URL for the image such as: [img] URL [/image]
http://www.digicamhelp.com/processing-photos/photo-hosting/posting-photos/
With videos and pix... always preview your post prior to actually posting... 8)

It doesn't have to be that complicated, here's a MUCH easier way. Take the youtube URL:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJCF7dPWumI
Replace /watch?v= with /v/
https://www.youtube.com/v/YJCF7dPWumI
Then copy that in the FLASH tags:
https://www.youtube.com/v/YJCF7dPWumI
I use 600x400, but you can set it to whatever you like.
