Evidently the experiment with the nighttime trolley service worked. JTA has agreed to a six-month trial of nighttime trolley service on the first Friday and Saturday nights of each month from 6PM til ???. Cost will be $4.00 for unlimited riding and the route will be similar to the route of the experiment last month; 5 Points at one end, Harpoon Louie's at the other and King Street in the middle. Maps will be available at the shops, restaurants and bars that are served very soon.
Those of us over 60 (ahem) will ride for free.
There was some talk of an app being available to track the locations of the trolleys so that you can tell when one would arrive at a stop. Tech talk went over my head.
This is a result of a meeting between the head of JTA, Jim Love and RAP representatives.
I can say this is partially correct... although there are still some nuances with route, exact times(number of trolleys) and costs that have not yet been finalized.
Thanks for the clarifications!
Awesome, Thank you Jim Love and RAP and I guess JTA for trying something new!
The new head at JTA is getting some positive comment from people who have met him for business.
Man this is great news, through in a connection to downtown and we would be set!
I heard at the Dog Event last night from RAP that this will start for 6 months, in January. JTA will run the trolleys on a slightly tweaked route Friday and Saturday, no idea on cost, but the Apple App will be functional to show you where the buses are located. The trolleys will roll on the FIRST WEEKEND of every month.
JTA will then report back to its board after the 6 month trial and see if they want to devote more resources to the solution. The original turnout was great. Let's keep it going in 2014!
Can the proposed route be posted here, please?
I ask because of the thought of returning toward town at the intersection near Harps.
The light timing and turning radii have me wondering if the trolley will continue west on St.Johns to Roosevelt northbound to Park St., and return into Riverside via FSCJ Kent, thereby possibly making stops at Orsay, et al along the way...?

And coming soon, "Taps", in the old Yesterday's space.
OH YEAH!
If Field, or Ock, or Mr.Ennis, or Dare, Josh, Arash, or Mr.Nat Ford himself might detail the route regarding how the trolleys will return to 5Pts from Harps (if in deed the route extends that far southwest), at least one nerd on this here forum would be moved to something darn near excitement!
The traffic signals at Woodmere and Herschel/St.Johns sometimes just do not "trip" when magnetically triggered.
At least not for me, but my car is mostly alloys/aluminum - anyone else here have this problem?
I have begin to wonder if this is set up intentionally to discourage thru-traffic east-west on Woodmere.
The stops are not finalized, but the route itself will be essentially the same as last time. Herschel, Park, King, Roselle, Stockton, Margaret, Riverside and St Johns are all utilized.
Stops are finalized per RAP:

QuoteBeginning January 3, a JTA sponsored trolley will run the first weekend (Friday and Saturday) of each month for three months from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. It will make figure eight runs around 5 Points, Avondale and Riverside, including King Street. The cost is $1.50 for a single ride or $4 for a day pass.
Let's rock this thing!

FYI, we'll be selling one day passes for the new night trolley at the Riverside Arts Market this Saturday. Trolley trips are $1.50 one way, but you can buy a day pass for $5 and ride all night. I would encourage you all to buy a few day passes this Saturday. First weekend service is Friday Jan 4th.

The day passes will be $4 not $5.
Saw Joe White of Jacksonville Magazine last night. I spoke with him and asked him if he wouldn't mind writing a story about this in the Jacksonville Magazine, as it would help those who get their news from the Magazine to get out and enjoy the offering in our great neighborhood. Joe also lives in Avondale, even though his offices are in Riverside.
