With all the focus on the demolitions in Springfield, I'm not sure that much attention was brought to the demolition of a 90 year old structure in Riverside last month...just outside the historic district, but within the Overlay. RAP tried to meet for several weeks with the new owners {Hallmark Partners} to discuss the pending demolition, but the meeting never occured.
As more details unfold between the sale of the property from Duval Co Medical Society to Hallmark Partners, more questions are raised...such as what are the plans for this property on Bishopgate Lane.

Now that the medical society home is demo'd, it will be used as a staging area for the adjacent condo construction. Talk has surfaced about using the site for town houses once the condo construction is complete, but that's a long way off and certainly more of a fluid conversation rather than concrete plans.
How is it that I have to go through an act of congress to make a change to my house and they can knock a whole damn building down without a peep?
If only they were planning to turn the house into a pizza parlor.
In all seriousness, this is a major loss. That was a beautiful structure and in fine condition, they knocked it down to make a STAGING AREA so they could build a dozen condos next door? That's outrageous and disrespectful. How did this demo COA possibly get approved by the HPC in the first place without anybody finding out about it?
I don't think you need a COA if your property falls outside of a historic district.
Gotcha just read the whole article. Wasn't included as contributing in the overlay. That certainly limits the options.
