Title: KC and Cincy getting streetcar
Post by: ProjectMaximus on October 28, 2013, 02:57:25 AM
How did I miss this? I know I was in Asia for awhile, but I've searched and I don't think anyone has posted about it here.

Both Cincinnati and Kansas City's streetcar plans are moving forward?! Just like Jax, it's long been in discussion, long been studied for feasibility/environmental impact/etc, but unlike us they actually get to move forward with implementation! Should be complete in the next two or three years. In fact, KC won a TIGER grant for theirs.

Jealous but happy for them.

Yeah, I believe Cincinnati's is already under construction.  It won some TIGER grant money a few years back.

Streetcars are also going back in Oklahoma City.  The tentative first 4 mile route was recently approve by the OKC City Council.  Funding was approved several years ago and construction starts next year.  A second phase will start right after that.  The City of OKC is also purchasing the downtown Santa Fe Railroad Station (currently used by Amtrak) as an intermodal hub to connect with regional rail that should be ready to go in the next few years.
