Title: Place to Dispose of Used Cooking Oil?
Post by: m74reeves on September 08, 2013, 07:50:10 PM
Being still new here, I'm wondering whether JEA or some agency has a place to drop off used grease/cooking oil? In looking online, I saw a special one time drop off last fall, but can't seem to find any other current details.

Thanks.

How much are you talking?  I just pour mine straight into the nearest stormwater drain.

^ seems that is the only solution here that i can find :o

i'm just talking small amounts from personal family use. i have some unused oil that's gone rancid and some of my clients have used oil, so i was seeking out an alternate to their just pouring it down the drain, which seems to be a bad idea all around.

thought JEA might be doing something like this or someone that might be into bio-fuel.

You're talking about vegetable or olive oil and not used motor oil? It's organic. Just dump it down the drain.

Just searching online and I found out that Metro Rooter (address 8892 Normandy Blvd) does it. Since it isn't all that far away from me, I guess that I'll have to be all environmentally self-conscious or whatever, and do the right thing, LOL

Thanks!  A little bit of oil down the drain occassionally may not be a big deal, but if you're on a septic system or do quite a bit of frying and such, cooking oils can be pretty rough on your plumbing (no pun intended), which is why i was trying to find this out.

AND, JEA does have a program called CORE (cooking oil recycling effort), which has drop off locations for residents and more to come. There are blue recycling receptacles at following fire stations:

#21: 6272 Powers Ave
#24: 9247 Lem Turner Rd
#25: 5423 Manor Dr
#32: 8140 Lenox
#33: 10800 New Kings Rd
#34: 11248 Ross Blvd
#35: 12851 N. Main St
#50: 3275 Tamaya Blvd
#58: 251 Joeandy Rd
#59: 14097 William Davis Pkwy
and Metro Rooter @ 8892 Normandy Blvd

Now I can deep fry my turkey with a clean conscience!

Heat it up and pour it on the weeds.

This.  Or just put it back in the bottle and chuck it in the trash.  I've never heard of anyone looking for a disposal site for household cooking oil, are you bored?
