The Mandarin Historical Society is working to purchase and relocate the one room school house that was used by St Joseph's Catholic Church to educate African American children. The structure dates to 1889 and has been relocated twice from its location. It is currently located in the rear yard of a residential property on the corner of Mandarin Road and Blanche Road. The property owner is attempting to sell the property and would like to see the structure saved. He has offered to sell it to the Mandarin Historical Society for $10,000 provided that they can relocate the structure from its current property.
The Mandarin Historical Society has reached out to Councilman Matt Schellenberg to see if there is anything he can do to help. Funds are needed to relocate this structure. You can contact the Mandarin Historical Society if you are interested in finding out more information or if you are interested in helping to see this structure saved!
