Title: History Uncovered in Downtown Atlantic National Bank Building
Post by: thelakelander on August 12, 2013, 07:58:31 AM
Here's an email I received from Gary Sass:

QuoteThe 3 attached photos reveal some uncovered gems of the past. New tenants are preparing their office space inside the 121 Atlantic Place office building. The recent construction revealed an old stairway entrance and remnants of the original terrazzo floor.

121 Atlantic Place is one of the most beautiful buildings in Downtown Jacksonville and an optimal location for office space. The building was once the headquarters for the Atlantic National Bank and was the tallest building in Florida in 1909.

The building is a prime example of seeing how heritage tourism is growing in Jacksonville. Not only is an old bank vault being used by the new Greater Ancestors Museum, but the Jacksonville "Top to Bottom" tour is able to generate intrigue by taking guests into a private older tunnel and vault with safe deposit boxes.

Thanks.
