This from the guy who plays the music at the stadium:
QuoteDear Jags fans....... Sweet Home Alabama will never be played at Everbank field again........ That is all #StandUnited
— Chill Will (@thisdjchill)
What does this even mean?? I'm not getting the bigger message here.
Good. They wore that song out in the 3rd quarter of games.
Never heard of it. Is it a popular song at games or something?
that's it I am cancelling my season tickets!
Hopefully they'll add Nas's 'Hate Me Now (instrumental)' to that cancelled list too; It's an okay rap, but it's really played out.
They're just getting a jump on next year, after the pools have been installed so they can play Queen's, "Fat Bottomed Girls" at the end of the 2nd Qtr and as we come back from halftime, Steel Panther - Fat Girl as the camera pans across the North End Zone.

Sweet Home Alabama beats Who Let the Dogs Out? any day of the week.
Flyovers cancelled, Skynard kicked out, this does not seem like Jacksonville anymore. Hail to the queen anyone, maybe Khan will replace Jag players with FOOSBALL players from London....
WHAT!!!?? Flyovers cancelled? Nooooo.........
I guess sequestration took care of that, huh? Kind of expensive to do flyovers. I always figured they used those for training missions of some kind.

Yeah, go figure, a guy who sold his yacht for 150 million and makes bumpers for cars cannot afford 10 flyovers for his paying customers. Class act.

Another misplaced blame to fit one's agenda Mtrain....Khan does not have any control of the US Department of Defense. The cancelling of flyovers at US sporting events is old news. It's ludicrous to suggest that a sports owner should be held responsible for something like that.

It's really sad that only one particular song can get a person pumped up for a Jags game. I'm actually glad that they got rid of that song, maybe it will help shed retro-stereotypes of a 'backwater image' shrouding over the city. They could have hypothetically cancelled my favorite song, and that would be a VERY minor footnote when it comes to Jags football. So if not playing a song stops anyone from going to a Jags game, maybe your loyalty wasn't that deep.

Please check your facts, Khan, the Jaguars, the City of Jacksonville, the State if Florida have no say in this matter. The Department of Defense issued an cease order on all operations not pertaining to combat in April. I am actually in favor of this, just because you have money shouldn't allow you to "buy" out military.
As an aside, both NYC and always-seem-to-be-going-broke San Diego had corporate sponsors who were willing to pay for fleet week, and Uncle Sam and Little O turned them down.

why get rid of something that has been played for years? Caroline Panthers play "Sweet Carolina" when the game is in doubt and the home team is going to win. Sure, they don't get to play it often, but I see the similarities.

Maybe they should play something by Yellowcard or Limp Bizkit or Red Jumpsuit Apparatus instead. A song that is from a local band that actually references Jacksonville.

Why not have Rick Ross sing Box Chevy?
Oh no, they're going to stop playing a song about Alabama in Jacksonville, womp womp. Yes, tehy're from Jax and blah, blah, blah, but it's a song "about" Alabama, big deal, get over it.
Yes, fine, if they want to play a song by a band with a local connection, go ahead and play Lynyrd Skynyrd, but why a song that's a paean to another state? The crowd might as well just start chanting ROLL TIDE whenever the Jags score.

maybe room for both? I'm not familiar with how much music they play during the Jags games.

Between most plays and into - out of commercial breaks. A lot!
Personally, I think it's more of the image issue that we're working on. Yes, they're from J'ville. And, Yes, they're singing about Alabama, but more importantly is the image that's associated with the song that they're trying to eliminate.
Khan, to date, has put his money where his mouth is in regards to re-branding the team and the city as a more cutting-edge, progressive product. This is just another step in that direction.
Now, if we could only get the ACTUAL city to adopt the same sort of strategy.....
so southern rock is a negative now?

No It's Not! Kahn better watch trying to change us just because he is the new Owner of the Jaguars?
Lynyrd Skynyrd
When I think of Southern Rock one group comes to my mind first and that is Lynryd Skynyrd. The bands first five albums released between 1973 and 1977 cemented the Jacksonville, Florida band as the best southern rock band of all time. The bands first album "pronounced leh-nerd skin-nerd" featured one of the biggest anthems in rock history with "Freebird." The album also featured the classics "Tuesday's Gone," "Gimme Three Steps," and "Simple Man." The album "Second Helping" came out in 1974 featured their second biggest song in my opinion "Sweet Home Alabama." The album also featured "The Needle and The Spoon" and "Call Me the Breeze." In 1975 Lynryd Skynyrd released "Nuthin'Fancy" featuring "Mr. Saturday Night Special." Lynyrd Skynrd continued there success in 1976 with "Gimme Back My Bullets." In 1977 Skynyrd released there last album until the 1990's with "Street Survivors." The classic album contained tracks such as "What's Your Name?," That Smell" and "I Know A Little." Unfortunatly Lynryd Skynyrd's history is filled with tragedy. The biggest tragedy was the airplane crash. Since, the airplane crash the band still has had members die of various fates. In 2006 the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Today Lynryd Skynyrd continues to record and tour. In 2009 the band released their album "God & Guns." http://voices.yahoo.com/the-top-10-southern-rock-bands-all-time-5246779.html
Lynyrd Skynyrd will always be a part of Jacksonville Florida and Thank God!

You're so right. I think this is EXACTLY what Khan wants everyone to think about:

I still think this is the way to go :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-Zd3Fa5Xac&feature=youtube_gdata_player
If they don't play any better than last year they should just play the blues all game long... But really - a song about Alabama playing her in Jax no matter what the connection is to the band. Very odd. I mean it's a great song. Maybe they can just play the track without vocal. That opening guitar part is what gets people screaming at the stadium.
Then again, with our, now, London ties, I think I have a song that the fans could get behind to amp everyone up....

But I think Coredumped's choice is fine, too. ;)

Yes it would! I hope for the best this year with the Jaguars. 8)
I'm all for them pulling that song. It's a good song, I remember hearing it all of my life. However over the past several years, it's come to remind me of the side of Jacksonville that I hate. Kudos to Kahn! Now if he can just start getting to work on making Jacksonville a little bit more urban, like Chicago.
It won't matter if they win a few more games and move off the bottom rating.

I thought it was just a song.
This is getting just plain silly. No one is going to stop going to the games if they don't play certain songs or don't have flyovers (although I do love flyovers.) What is fun about going is the game day atmosphere. You can watch on TV but it's not the same as being in the stadium on game day.

very true, unless you have redzone and a fridge full of beer.
After being in person for that turd last night, I'll stay home. Khan can take the team to London for all I care, and keep them there.
QuoteGiven the self loathing disorder of this city, and the fact that Southern Rock is pretty much Jville's claim to musical history within the past fifty years, you knew that would happen with a certain sect of the people.
With or without the song, silly new announcer or the Daily's Convenience Market's inside the stadium (WTF?) We are still known as Florida's Murder Capital and we still have our fair share of rednecks.
Stay home then. It was a PRESEASON game. Ah, but why both arguing with a troll?
I'm a season ticket holder and enjoy the stadium experience win or lose...obviously winning games are much more fun for the walk home, but I'm in the NEZ and surrounded by a large group of friends and it's always a fun experience.
I was all for the pulling of Sweet Home Alabama. I follow Dj Chill Will on Twitter and he hears how many people are just sick of that song. A lot of fans have been trying to get that one stopped for a long time. I don't hate the band, but that song being played has always seemed silly to me..and I personally can't stand it. (But that's just me)
Anyway, I went to the games for years knowing I'd hear it.. if you stop going to the games because of one song..well, that's just stupid. =)
QuoteAh, but why both arguing with a troll?
Ah, but name calling is so much more mature? Love dealing with the millennials, I weap for the future!
Oh, now we've got us a little flame war starting. Things to worry about. LOL
They should change the words to the song "That Smell" to talk about the Jags after the performance they put on last night.
lol this thread is almost as bad as reading the comments from the dimwits on Jacksonville.com. If you don't like that they aren't playing Sweet Home Alabama anymore at games, stay at home and listen to it all day to your heart's content. If you care too much about what music is or isn't getting played at a football game, you probably aren't at the games for football related reasons anyway. Lastly, the playlist that gets played at the games is hardly on Khan's radar of things to worry about. I'm sure he has far more important things to worry about.

:sigh: Come on, really? Look up the word troll in regards to MBs. It's what you seem to be doing on this thread. That was my point. Weep for the future, mine will be just fine. Judging the worth of someone and the impact they will have on the future because of using one word...? Yeah, that's maturity at it's finest.. I have no insecurity in that regard. =)
Keep flaming away at me. My point was made after that comment about you trolling to get attention. I refuse to go back and forth with someone like you who obviously gets off on message board flame wars. =)
DJ Chill Will can't please everyone is my point and as the regime is changing, so is the music. That way it's not the same played out lists. The point of the music is simply to get people and players pumped up between plays etc. If you can't understand that, well, that's your issue. =) Go to the games and just have fun.
GO JAGS!

Boy, I didn't wanna drag this thing up from the dead LOL. To go with the 'particular music' played at Everbank Field theme, heres my two cents...
Anyone else tired of the "Jaguar version" of the Gary Glitter song 'Rock N Roll (Part 2)' AKA "The Hey Song"? It's typically played right after a Jags win. How about playing the actual original? The original is awesome, and it personifies stadium sports music.
As much as I like "Might Getcha" by David Banner, that's getting a tad old, and played to death.
A couple of 'keepers' IMO.
Young Jeezy ft Plies "Lose My Mind" (instrumental)
C-Murder ft Magic & Snoop "Down For My N's" (instrumental)
Darude "Sandstorm"

They used to play Lil Jon and the Eastside Boys on 3rd and short when Henderson and Stroud were on the team. Did they take that away?

David Banner?? hmm every time I heard the song it was always played during defense, I never heard it on when the Offense was on the field. I know I heard Lil Jons voice, it sounded like the chorus of a whatever song it was. It was hyped though but I never knew what song it was. Do they still come out to Metallica?? The Jaguars used to always come out to Metallica also back in 2004-2006. What is their intro music now?
A coupla days ago, I went to get my car wash at Charles & George's on Cassat. I was sitting down waiting in the gift shop until the car was washed, then the lady cashier randomly outta no where starting signing Sweet Home Alabama. In my head, I was like 'damn many people in Jax LOVE that song' LOL
I was at the Jags' draft party in 2009 and Sweet Home came on the P.A. Atiyyah Ellison and Mkristo Bruce started kind of absentmindedly singing along to it, then stopped and began laughing when they realized I was watching them.

I think that song got played at the request of Stroud, Henderson, Peterson, Mathis, Grant and that whole crew on defense. I loved watching those guys.
It was really a fit for the team at that time.
