So they're putting pavers instead of wood and taking away the covered seating. Cool?
Are they re-installing the Navy Memorial? I hope so.
Also, there are images stacked in layers beneath the top image. This is obviously meant to be part of an interactive presentation. I see one with rainbow pavers. That would be striking. I also see one of children splashing. Are they considering a fountain for kids to play? That would be incredible for my family's purposes.
Who can we email for the full presentation? Did this get approved? Timeline?
Will this go before Waterways? Probably not.
Pavers? That was part of the River Accord.
2013-373- Now in committee. Regulatory Compliance Coordinator? Active legislation.
Is the DIA zone exempt?
Vitti, Wallace new guys. Will a kayak launch be part of the design next to the School Board?
RAM dock can only be used when RAM is open. Not good.
DIA noticed meeting 7/16 -topic Downtown
2013-384- Now in committee. Will an amendment be attached for a kayak launch that will allow 24/7 access to our St. Johns River our American Heritage River a FEDERAL Initiative in our new highly restricted DIA zone? Active legislation.
I am Downtown and why you aren't.
Is there a means for you guys to just post the full presentation as a Powerpoint or Key Note instead of just showing these screenshots? It's hard to tell what we are even looking at.
The presentation is included as a PDF in the DDRB agenda. For an actual workable PPT file, a request would have to be made to the city.

I will send an email now.
This is long overdue. Walking the southbank now is pretty scary, I'm surprised there hasn't been any lawsuits brought to the city from people tripping.

I have to agree, coredumped. There are some people that work for the city that are straight trippin'.

Well, Don Redman did trip and break his leg on the Southbank Riverwalk some years back.
actually he fell after he was elected (the first time)....but arguably he can't sue because he was riding a bike, which is prohibited by sign on the southbank riverwalk
Navy / Maritime / Marine / Coast Guard memorial SHOULD NOT BE MOVED. I knew the woman that was the force behind making it happen and her intent was "The City and The Sea." Are we AGAIN missing an opportunity to create something worthy of getting off I-95 with the wife and kids whilst speeding to Disney, to share something that touches all of us.
IDEA?! WHY NOT line the walk with Jacksonville's Stars in life-size bronze? The famous and the infamous from 'The Creature From the Black Lagoon,' to Oliver 'BABE' Hardy. The list could include everyone on this page (which you are welcome to join): https://www.facebook.com/groups/223676907645678/
As for a canoe/kayak launch? The new floating launches are really nice since stability is paramount when pushing off, but I'd really prefer a van or car accessible sandy beach. This could easily take the form of a 25' wide, unpaved boat ramp at the east ends of the river walks. Metropolitan Park city marina would be the other location I'd suggest. Done right, with barrier posts set against automobiles, trucks and trailers, it could be a 'beautiful thing.'

Where the sidewalk meets a canoe/kayak LANDING.

This is another BIG issue that is holding our city back. Signs that say you can't fish, smoke, chew, draw, paint, play instruments, sing, preach, spit, walk, ride bikes, skateboards, skates, skip, hang glide and ANYTHING ELSE they think they should regulate. Open the sidewalks and streets to people wearing smiles, allow bikes and roller _____ onto the Skyway. Do this and Orlando can keep being 'The City Beautiful,' and we'll become 'Jacksonville, The City Inclusive.'
One more point, I fully agree with Hightowerlover and Innercity that the presentation STINKS! The COJ can and should do better. It is very hard to follow and/or identify the various elements of the plan. Perhaps we can snag better layout photos and publish them.

the no bikes signs were put up because the wooden planks were unsafe to ride on...I'm sure riding will be allowed on the new riverwalk

I believe that the memorial is going to stay in relatively the same area. If you look at the slide on the bottom of page 3 (Section 105), it should be going in that circular area that juts out into the river.
The statue will stay in the same relative location. Its next to the bathroom building. The statue will be moved to ground level to allow for easier access and viewing, as the old platform had stairs and it was kind of inaccessible/un-noticed. There are options for a interactive spalsh fountain in this area as well.
There will definately be multi-colored paver in a curved pattern throughout the walk. The idea is for it to be visually striking from the buildings above and the MSB.

I emailed the City the same day this went up. I haven't heard back from an actual person about receiving the PPT.

If you're correct, these are definite upgrades and make it a place that I would be proud to direct out-of-town guests.

I've seen the entire presentation several times and these are the core features of the project. There are several optional pieces that can be constructed but these depend on how the public bidding goes.
