Here's an interactive map that shows poverty in Jacksonville in 1980 and 2010 by race. Obviously not exact, as there are quite a few dots in the middle of the river, but still a good general depiction. Map shows that Jacksonville's poor African American population has been somewhat dispersed (to Arlington and Westside), there are now poor Asians along the Phillips Corridor (not news to anyone), and that there are significantly more poor Hispanics (all over town). Jacksonville wasn't even close to built out in 1980, so the map isn't nearly as telling as it would be in cities like NYC and Chicago, but still interesting. Very cool find. It would be interesting if someone could overlay this with satellite images of the city as well. What I also found interesting is that you can see the affects of renewal efforts in Springfield and Riverside/Avondale as part of the reason for the diaspora between 1980 and 2010.
