I got this email from Qdoba Corporate today. I saw an earlier post about a new Qdoba at Deerwood Station, but then I got this. We frequented the one at SJTC quite often and were glad they remodeled it last year. Sorry to see them go unless of course this is a hoax.
An Important Message from Qdoba
Dear XXXX,
We're sorry to announce that all locations in Northern Florida will be closing on Friday, June 28 at 3:00 p.m. It's been great serving you, and we thank you for your patronage. We hope we can share delicious meals with you again in the future.
Your feedback is important to us, so if you have any questions, please contact us at Social@Qdoba.com and we will respond as soon as possible.
All the best,
Your friends at the Jacksonville Qdoba

I believe it may be some sort of hoax, based on:
1. Not reported on their web site, which would typically be updated before mass emails were sent
2. Their northern Florida locations consist of only one current location, SJTC.
3. What has been reported by business news and confirmed by filings with the State is a new location planned for Deerwood
4. Placing a time on it. Hoaxes usually use little details to make it seem as though it must be authentic. By putting 3pm, the brain typically responds positively to that "factual" indicator. When, in reality a business that serves lunch and dinner would not open for business for a "half-day" on their closing day.
What I believe this to be is the work of a hacker. It would provide an influx of emails, slowing their servers and doing not much more than causing a nuisance, but that seems to be the goal that misfits seem to attain.
Then again, stranger things have happened. Hopefully not true, because that is one of my favorite places in that area of town.
One of my colleagues loves Qdoba and when we're traveling, at least 1 stop is inevitable... and I hate that place. Here's why:
Step 1 - steam a tortilla for 15 seconds or until sopping wet.
Step 2 - take the now cold & wet tortilla and add 1 scoop of cold, dog food quality meat
Step 3 - add toppings; lettuce - shredded cheese - boring salsa
And Viola! You have a terrible cold, wet taco!

That sounds delicious to me! Do you like Chipotle or Moe's or any of those places that do the exact same thing?
This thread really needs to meet the thread about the new 'dob' opening up.
Qdoba used to be my favorite of the chain places, and when I first moved here I enjoyed the one at SJTC. However, at some point their quality dropped way off and it seemed like the customers followed. I think this is isolated to that location, however, but it may have improved since I haven't been back in a couple years now.
They are all pretty much the same. I take my kids to Moe's sometimes because they eat free on Tuesday. And Chipotle (at least the last time I went) charges extra for chips. Hearing people talk about Chipotle, you'd think it was revolutionary. Probably the most overrated fast casual type restaurant I can think of.

No. I've had decent food from Chipotle... Moe's is terrible. I consider these to be the 'subway' of Mexican food. Taco Bell would be step up. I'll put the beef Meximelt & Doritos Locos up against any cold taco from Qdoba or Moe's.

Burn.
Not sure if it really counts as a chain or not but I do enjoy Sierra Grille. There's used to be one on Baymeadows @ Southside but now I think the only one is in Jax Beach at the end of JTB.
My imitation of one of the sounds of Everbank Field on gameday.
"East side, Welcome to.... moe's Welcome to....Moe's! West side, Welcome to....MOE'S!!!!!!! Welcome to....MOE'S!!!!!!!!! West win's again" LOL
Of course the side that you call last (which is always the West) are gonna be the loudest, because they are all prepared and ready to go. It's good to be in the West side of the stadium. :)

Real shame, and also rather odd, if true.
Really friendly, long-time staff in there.

They get a ton of business from the Paul Mitchell school next door too.
It was also posted on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/QdobaJacksonville
Went to one Qdoba in my life, ATL Hartsield-Jackson Airport. Subpar at best. Like Chipotle but with less flavor. Hate to see another business go (in general), but really don't care about this one. They didn't have a business in the Core, anywho.

Quite liked that location.

Even if they didn't (which they did) so what? I find it hard to believe that a franchise restaurant that's purposely set out to avoid city cores. I'm SO sick of the whole 'core vs suburbs' mentality. I'm sorry, had to get it off my chest.

Its dumb. Let it die.
You keep trying to manufacture this whole phony outrage thing, it literally exists only in your head and its dumb.
People on an urban vibrancy page are going to like urban areas.
Not sure what part of that isnt obvious?
Pretty sure he combs the threads looking for any mention of suburban mediocrity, unleashes faux outrage, moves on to the next one. Its trollish really.
We all get it, I-10. You prefer the suburbs over anything urban, which is fine. But I'm not sure what you we're expecting to hear on an
urban blog.
Saw the sign on the door today. Not a bad restaurant. It's right next to my school, and almost everyone bought lunch there every day. Oh well, I'm graduating and I like chipotle better. But now my rewards card is useless! :P

You and Stephen are completely wrong! Wanna know what's trollish? Propaganda. "This sucha-sucha is bad, (normal American things of today) avoid it at all costs, but this (usually some hippie BS) is Shangri-la, and is the key to life as we know it. That's what is 'trollish'. Anyone who hasn't seen my love for things that are urban on MJ within posts and threads that I made is blind, or dumb; Want me to pull crap up for evidence? Look for yourself. I'm just adaptable and REASONABLE enough to understand that everything cannot be urban, it's impossible! So shame on me!
^^^You said that I'm 'manufactuing a phony outrage'. I'm not the one that's outraged here. You have it backwards, I'm not 'outraged' that urbanism exists, YOU are outraged that suburbanism exists. I have no problem with urbanism, in contrast to your beef with the suburbs; Can you atleast get that right?

That sure is a lot of exclamations! Oh lord, now you got me doing it. ;) But seriously, here's a simple question: If all this "hippie urban crap" bothers you so much, why participate at all?
BTW, I'm not necessarily disagreeing with some of your points. I just don't see the need to lash out at anyone who promotes urbanism on an urban blog. You say their views are skewed a bit, eh? Well no shit. Like I said, look where you are. What's next? Going to hang out at a hospital & then complaining there's too many sick people around??
Basically what I'm saying is you probably need to get over it, and also get over yourself a bit. Because it seems like you're ranting & turning someone's innocent post around on them on a daily basis. And that indeed is trollish.
^^^I like the way you put words in my mouth when you added 'urban' between hippie BS. I thought that I was attempting to respond to Ben cordially, until the anti-suburban task force (you and Stephen) had to put out an APB on me.
By the way, the Tallahassee Qdoba Location is also closing at 3pm on friday.
I went to their facebook page... and they announced it... Sucks!
^^^ Explain exactly how? I need to start doing that, just tersely calling someone's post 'dumb' is a good and quick way to withdraw from a debate.

Seriously Stephen, all that you said earlier is very dumb, I'm not even trying to be funny.
None of what you said makes any sense, as none of it applies to what I said. I never complain when someone says something positive about an urban environment, I dunno where you got that from. I never bought the whole "never pay for anything new outside of the core, because it's a detriment" argument; For instance, if it was up to you, there would be no SJTC, or RCMP, even if they were built to 'ideal urban specifications'; Just because where they are at, you hate them on that alone.
Hell, 99 percent of the time nowadays when people complain, moan, and whine about the suburbs, I don't even respond anymore like I used to because it's so tiresome, and redundant; I just kinda roll my eyes to myself. However, to think that a freaking franchise restaurant like Qdoba is not gonna build in a cities' core because they have an 'anti-urban agenda' is a lil' much don't you think? That's what I was responding to, until you and the rest of the 'anti-suburban task force' took issue with me. I know Stephen, "none of this makes sense, and it's dumb" go on and make that obligatory reply...
I hate to pick on you I-10 East but you are the guy that gave me a hard time when I complained how pedestrian unfriendly River City Marketplace is. It was a few years back but I praised the fact that the Northside finally got some shopping but that it was the crappiest layout for a shopping center in the history of Jacksonville. You CANNOT walk there. The group of strip centers are too far apart and if you try to cross over the main road to get to (god forbide) Walmart it's a near death experience. I work there and if you want to grab lunch you HAVE to drive your car. So much for the glories of suburbia.
Back to the topic at hand. I'm going to miss Qdoba. While its on the same level as Moes and Chipotle they all are pretty much the same to me but I usually enjoyed Qdoba the most out of the three. I also feel they marketed themselves the least. I mean the Chipotle markets the hell hell out of themselves, the "Back to the Start" TV spot alone must have cost millions.

Since everybody decided to gang up on I-10, I feel compelled to back him up on this one. This doesn't read like the unreasonable diatribe against urbanism that you guys are making it out to be. ben says basically pointed out that he didn't care for the place because it was not in the urban core. I-10 was simply calling out that ben says based his opinion of the place on where it is located and not what the business is like. Then, with absolutely no sense of irony, you guys called him out for pitting the urbs versus the suburbs (of which he basically did the opposite). Maybe he has a history of smack-talking the core in other threads, but he hasn't done it in this one, so you guys are just arguing with the person of I-10 rather than the point he made, which was valid. And repeatedly calling someone or their discussion dumb, apart from being rude, literally adds nothing to the conversation. If it weren't for the fact that the person being antagonistic is a moderator, I would expect them to get a warning from one.

I used to actually like Qdoba, but I'm with everybody else. The overall quality seemed to go downhill, and that includes the staffs. But still at a semi-premium price. Moe's is kinda the same way too, so is Chipotle. Mexican food isn't supposed to be expensive, so I never understood all these Americanized chains coming out charging $10 for a couple tacos & beans. Seems like that market has become oversaturated & ran its course (hopefully).
Tijuana Flats is one of the chains that does it right IMO. Not exactly authentic, but its cheap, just the right amount of service & you're in & out.
Looks like the memo got out.
Just stopped in for lunch and the line was over 40 deep.

I ate at Qdoba for the first time in years, once I got to my hotel in Cleveland a few weeks back. Little Italy was right down the street but I wasn't in the mood for the cuisine and I was in a rush. Since I hadn't eaten all day, it did the job I needed it to do but to be honest, Qdoba, Chipotle, Moe's, Tijuana Flats, etc. are all the same to me....a slight step up from Taco Bell. I'd take a burrito from Burrito Gallery, High Tide, or Taste Buds Express over any of them any day.

At least the food is served hot!
Hmm, I've never considered Tijuana Flats to be much different in cost. With all of these joints, I typically end up parting ways with $8-$10 bucks for a burrito.
In my opinion the only distinguishing thing about Tijuana Flats is its sauces.
I pretty much stick to the steak burrito and Chipotle's is quite a bit better than Qdoba and Moe's. I used to eat at Qdoba about 10 years ago, but their quality dropped off quite a bit. Ate at Moe's a lot in college too, but even a coupon couldn't get me to go there now.
Chipotle to Moe's/Qdoba is like Five Guys to McDonalds/Wendy's.
Chipotle is a huge step up from the rest in terms of quality ingredients, and much of their success has been the result of their "Food with Integrity" campaign. Their meats, and even their dairy, are all hormone and antibiotic free. Their beef is all grass fed, their dairy cows are pasture-raised, and their pork comes from pigs raised outdoors with deeply bed pens, rather than factory-farmed concrete warehouse pigs. Vegetables and beans are often organic, and many are locally sourced from smaller family farms. Might be a little more expensive, but if every chain restaurant exercised the concern for animal welfare and sustainable farming practices that Chipotle did, the country would be a much better place for it.
P.S.
My chain 'rito ranking would be as such:
Chipotle > Moe's > T-Flats > Qdoba.

Apparently it had a pretty good crowd on regular days, maybe it was a management issue. Even a store that gives away free money will fail if not run properly.
Anyone else notice that Qdoba's thermostat always seemed to be stuck at about 38 degrees?
You could go in there on the hottest day of the year and it still felt like Siberia in there.
I've never been particularly sensitive to cold either, but there were times when my hands would be shaking so badly that rice would be flying from my 'rito.
