Title: Apple to build Texas plant, Florida to benefit
Post by: thelakelander on May 28, 2013, 12:41:32 PM
Apple has announced plans for a new Mac assembly plant in Austin, TX. The plant will assemble components made in Florida.  No word on where in Florida.

A quote about Apple from a Skyscraperpage forum member:

"I have always wondered why certain corporations were lionized and others demonized.

Apple, in particular, has achieved almost holy status, yet it's corporate ethics are among the worst of any major company anywhere. They pay almost no U.S. corporate taxes, they abuse foreign labor, they are extremely monopolistic, and their devices are rigidly controlled and unalterable.

They're incredibly innovative (perhaps more than any company anywhere) but are basically textbook amoral megacorporation.

And now they're building a factory in Texas, essentially because Texas has the worst air pollution in the country (owing to it's nonexistent energy policy)."

QuoteApple builds in Texas, not California

Before Steve Jobs died, President Obama strongly encouraged him to reverse the trend that saw Apple move nearly all of its manufacturing out of the United States.

In December, officials at Apple’s Silicon Valley headquarters said that’s just what they would do, announcing their intention to build a new U.S. factory to assemble Mac computers. The Sacramento Business Journal reported at the time on speculation Apple would put the facility at a plant it owned in Elk Grove that once was used for manufacturing.

Last week, Apple CEO Tim Cook dashed those hopes. In testimony before a Senate committee, Cook said the Mac assembly plant will be built in Austin, Texas. The plant will use components made in Florida and Illinois and equipment made in Kentucky and Michigan.
