Whitechapel
Here's one of their songs. (I believe they played it yesterday)

This death-metal group had a pretty intense and dedicated following. They played on one of the smaller stages, but the area soon filled with on-lookers to a pretty intense mosh pit.
I watched from afar.

This little cutie was being ignored on the smallest stage in the park...until she started singing a raw and sexually explicit song. Folks flocked in from all corners of the park.
Cheap theatrics aside, this is a very good band. We bought the cd.

Papa Roach
(http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g374/sheclown2/paparoach.jpg) (http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/sheclown2/media/paparoach.jpg.html)
they played this:

They owned the crowd.

Three Day's Grace

Limpbizkit

Metro Park, as it should be. Jumping with energy.
Can anyone give a Limp Bizkit review, details, etc..? Missed the show and really want to know how they sounded and how was the crowd support. Ty.
Great pics, Sheclown!
Steve I can tell you that the crowd ate it up.
When Durst talked about Jacksonville, about growing up in Arlington and shop lifting from Regency Mall because "it was so easy", the crowd exploded.
(http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g374/sheclown2/DSCN3513.jpg) (http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/sheclown2/media/DSCN3513.jpg.html)
He thanked Jacksonville and said it made Limpbizkit.
We Lovell the southshores neighborhood across the river. The people down by the river had news trucks out here to interview them about the noise. Didn't bother me, it was nice to catch the tail end of Alice in Chains for free haha.
One more day of noise. I think the southbank can handle it. Its a nice day. Take the kids to the beach.
Maybe people in Beauclerc should have news trucks out to interview them about the planes headed towards JIA. They fly right over there. As I sit here typing, I'm hearing a train whistle. It's loud too. Neighbors in Sweetwater are complaining about loud music at Celebration Church. When did we start getting upset at listening to life around us? Do we really want to live in a silent vacuum? And impose that on everyone else too?
Rock on, Rockville.
They sent fliers around St Nicholas saying to call the police during the concert to complain about the noise. I thought about calling the police to complain about the flier, then I threw it away.
Lol, you have scanned it.

Yeah I got the same one. Plus 4 or 5 emails over the last week.

This may have been the band that yelled to an adoring crowd "hey, not too bad for a bunch of rednecks". At which point, I thought it should have been told to him that using the "R" word is okay if you happen to be one. Otherwise, not so much.
Didn't matter tho. The crowd screamed some more.
Hollywood Undead.

Taking Limp Bizkit, Shinedown, and Skynyrd out of the equation --this band took the crowd, IMHO. The air was totally electric around them. Security was visibly shaken by the task of controlling the exploding energy.
Papa Roach was a close second for crowd excitement.

Great pictures!
Not really my style of music, but I would have liked to have seen Steel Panther.
I've always had a soft spot for PANTHER.
Shinedown
(http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g374/sheclown2/DSCN3713.jpg) (http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/sheclown2/media/DSCN3713.jpg.html)
(http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g374/sheclown2/shinedown.jpg) (http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/sheclown2/media/shinedown.jpg.html)
and of course, they played:

...and then there was SKYNYRD!
(http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g374/sheclown2/DSCN3717.jpg) (http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/sheclown2/media/DSCN3717.jpg.html)
Gary Rossington
no words...
just kidding, of course there are words.
Gary is the last of the original band members, although Ricky Medlocke is certainly not an outsider, neither is Johnny VanZant. But Gary is the last of the band.
(http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g374/sheclown2/DSCN3733.jpg) (http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/sheclown2/media/DSCN3733.jpg.html)
Ricky Medlocke tore up free bird last night -- 63 years old and he played that guitar like a mad man. It was a thing of beauty.

Johnny Van Zant.
When Shinedown began to play, the crowd was visibly different than it had been for the other bands.
They were listening to family.
And by the time Skynyrd came on stage, grandparents were dancing next to their grandkids, parents were holding up lighters -- all loving the hometown band who were loving them right back.
Johnny Van Zant, clearly moved by his reception from the crowd, told us that is it difficult -- intimidating -- playing for one's hometown. He told us that it was clearly worth it and that he won't stay away so long again. He told us that he'd see us, again, next year.
(http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g374/sheclown2/skynyrdfour.jpg) (http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/sheclown2/media/skynyrdfour.jpg.html)
They played the classics. And they played from their latest CD. "Last of a Dying Breed"

So why Metro Park?

This event brought people into the city, their city. And it made them want to stay.
Here is Halestorm

There is a Facebook group called Save Rockville ! Dedicated to fighting those on the city council who want to stop these events. Find us and join up.
For those of you who are on the fence, remember that these shows bring people from all over the world.
I checked in VIP's from several states as well as Germany, Sweden, Finland, Belgium and New Zealand. The downtown hotels were full.
There were also some owners of professional sports teams and Las Vegas hotels who came for this event.
These are the kind of people we need to come visit Jacksonville.
Many people, including myself depend on these events as part of their income and the city can always use an influx of out of state dollars.
The opposition to ticketed events in Met Park is well-funded and well organized. They are the same backwards thinkers who spent over $50,000.00 and sued the city to stop the amphitheater from being built.
There is a city council meeting on May 14th. Please come out and speak in support of outdoor music at Metropolitan Park.
If you can't come out, call or email your city council members. I can post the contact info for the members of the ad hoc committee here if you need it.
