Post by: spuwho on April 25, 2013, 12:05:44 AM
Per Trains NewsWire:

ORLANDO, Fla. â€" Bombardier Transportation has signed a contract with the Florida Department of Transportation to provide operations and maintenance services for the Central Florida Commuter Rail Transit project, also known as SunRail. The contract is valued at about $195 million, and includes mobilization activities followed by 10 years of service.

Bombardier’s scope of work for the SunRail commuter rail service will include train operation, dispatching, fleet maintenance, track maintenance, customer service, station platform and facility maintenance, and material supply. The Bombardier team will mobilize for service over the coming months and assume its operations and maintenance responsibilities in the spring of 2014.

Bombardier already operates or maintains commuter systems in Montréal; Boston; New Jersey; San Diego; Ottawa, Ont.; Miami; Los Angeles; and, beginning in June, Baltimore.

Station platforms along the line are nearing completion and the operations center in Sanford is just about done as well.  This thing should be up and running in the fall.

I checked the progress in Kissimmee and Altamonte Springs last weekend, and both had broken ground for the stations. 2 Amtrak trains just happened to make a stop in Kissimmee when I was there.

Bombardier is one of those companies who very quietly dominate a whole part of industry.  The produce everything from jet liners to Ski-Doos.  If it moves people, they have a part of it.
