The board unanimously supported Juan Kuryla.
The board favored him over two others who made the shortlist for the position. Those were interim CEO Roy Schleicher and Michael E. Moore, the former CEO of Global Container Terminals.
The selection came after eight candidates met for one-on-one interviews with board members over the past week

I don't know much about Juan Kuryla but I'm glad Lake Ray didn't get the job.

I agree. Nothing against Lake but everything against overt cronyism which is what the push of city council behind Ray was. He was not qualified for the job and in fact did not make it to the final three. That says it all right there.
I just wish that we'd stop hiring from within the state of Florida. But who knows, maybe he'll do something prudent for the port.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -
The Jacksonville Port Authority board of directors voted Monday to to reopen its search for CEO after the Miami man they voted to hire has withdrew from consideration.
Ten days ago, the board voted unanimously to off the job to current Port of Miami deputy director Juan Kuryla. He was the top choice after a nationwide choice, and the board appointed a committee to begin negotiating a contract with Kuryla.
The JaxPort board on Monday approved reopening the job search.
JaxPort has been looking for a new chief executive since Paul Anderson resigned last fall to become CEO of the Port of Tampa. http://www.news4jax.com/news/man-jaxport-wanted-as-ceo-turns-down-job/-/475880/20032968/-/japtuf/-/index.html
Great, just great! Now they'll hire that guy that city council wants. I'm tired of those assholes always getting their way!
why do you think that? he didn't even make the cut to 3 last time
I feel that they'll bring him back up if they can. Wheather they do or not, I'm not optimistic that we'll end up with anyone of value.
