Apartments, Apartments, Apartments. I guess it is true that we are experiencing a Multi Family construction boom. I am not too sure how I feel about it.
Like to see Mayo expanding.

It will be interesting to see how quick these things fill up when they come online. At least with 220 Riverside, it adds a residential type not really available in or near downtown. However, there's thousands of multifamily units in the Southside and there are thousands more under construction.
It's a shame to have that much population density and almost nothing is walking distance or rather walk-encouraging. I imagine in 20-30 yrs this area will be revisioned for it's lack of basic necessities to the non-car driver.
I'm hoping (considering the vast number of apartments being constructed--along with the ones currently going) that we don't have a bunch of empty apartment buildings like we have empty stores in some areas.
a closed Starbucks in a suburban location? say it aint so!

Nope, they built a freestanding cafe w/drive thru up the street by the Aloft hotel.
drive thru probably brings them more business.
Any idea when World of Beer will open? I have friends in that area, and I like the idea of having a nearby bar with a nice beer selection.
EDIT: And yes, I know about the Mellow Mushroom that's right there, but more options are always welcome!
World of Beer is awesome! I've been to them in Tampa and Ft. Lauderdale, and it's a very classy place. Live music on weekends, nice open area with outdoor seating. Great land for Jacksonville!

Apartments are the trend. Condos and single family homes take qualifying for and that isn't as easy as it was. If you've been forclosed on there is usually a rental in your future. Hence they are now building apartments.
A "resort" apartment complex. What is that? ..................... really?

fancy name for we have a pool and weight room.
Yeah, a bus industry magazine once published a hilarious story about catchy advertising promises, it was done like a translation into english. The one item I remember is:
Anytime you hear - 'Wait there's more!'
Translate it to - 'That's about all there is.'

To envision what the area will look like in 20 - 30 years all you really have to do is look at University or Baymeadows. At one point those areas used to be the fresh commercially booming spots that serviced the newly developed suburban neighborhoods.

It doesn't look like there has been any movement in that spot for a while.
They were working on it the day I put together the update.
I hadn't been over there in about a week. But drove by there multiple times in February and March and it didn't look like anything had moved. And I never saw anyone in there. Good to hear it is moving forward.
The unoriginality of multi-family architecture in Florida never ceases to amaze.
