Anyone know how this route is doing? Anybody taken it? Wondering if they'll keep it...talk to a lot of travelers, not one of whom has mention it. Hope it's doing well, would love to see some more international (even if it's just the Caribbean) flights.
I've not taken this particular flight, but San Juan is definitely worth a visit. The fact that the flight is still going suggests that they are making a profit on it. It would be great to see direct flights from Jax to the Bahamas.
Im still amazed that its always cheaper to fly to San Juan than Ft. Laud. or Miami from Jacksonville.
10:41 AM Leave JAX
2:35 PM Arrive SJU
NON-STOP
Flight 1739
Duration: 2h 54m
Total trip time: 2h 54m
$117 Lowest Fare
$447 Refundable Fare
Yep still flying. I'd get more excited if they'd set up 6-8 flights daily from JFK to JAX and then various single daily flights from JAX to various Caribbean rim Cities. Cartagena is calling me!
I took it last year...was great
My wife has used it for business and avoid having to fly through ATL or MIA for a connection. She loves it.
She said the flights were always full during her trips to San Juan.
JetBlue is still trying to get approval from the FAA to have that flight continue on to Reagan in DC. But there is a gate constraint there and its unlikely to get approval.
I used to fly the AirTran flight from San Juan to Chicago Midway. Ugh! Huge delays in luggage claim as you have to wait for the dogs to sniff all the luggage on the carts before they toss them on the turnstile, sometimes can take an hour. Haven't seen that yet on the JAX flights.

About a year ago I was with a young professionals group that toured the airport and met with the CEO. He stated that the SJU flight was doing EXTREMELY well and was prompting discussions of more frequent flights and destinations in the caribbean. But i took it all with a grain of salt...his presentation to us was basically a sales pitch promoting the economic importance of the Jax Aviation Authority and he also claimed that the direct flights to Las Vegas and Denver were incredibly popular, exceeding expectations and breaking records, yada yada. We'll see..I've never been to PR but really want to take advantage of the convenient and cheap flight from Jax.

Not always. I've seen and nearly purchased one-way flights on SW to FLL for $59 and on AA to MIA for $69 taxes included on numerous occasions!! But I've always ended up driving because people would always end up coming with me which makes the roadtrip more cost-effective.

There's a thread on this site from several months back discussing a slot that opened up at DCA. Three airlines were applying for it, one of which was Jetblue proposing a JAX-DCA route once a day. THis might be the one you are talking about...don't know if there's an update but seemed like a 33% chance, haha.
Just for sake of comparison: how long did JAA keep the JAX to LAX flight before they canned it?
Article from the TU today. San JUan flights doing well. Looking to bring Jax to Lax back.

about 8 months I think, maybe a year. I'll think of it again when I'm in the middle seat going that way on Monday.

no shit, but that's what happens when you book on 5 day notice.
I took it earlier this year; it was great. San Juan is very accessible from Jax and is a great vacation destination. You can actually make it just a nice long weekend too. Have to visit the El Yonke!
And if you get outside San Juan and drive through the countryside (highly recommended!) don't forget to try the "powdered chicken", it's delicious.
Is this flight dead? Searched a dozen sets of dates throughout this summer and can't find anything direct...
If they canned this that'll suck :(
If you can't get a direct from JetBlue's website, it's dead.

It runs seasonal(winter) now. No summer direct flights.

My wife tried to use this flight several times but it was either full or too expensive.
Seems Delta lowered their price on Jax-San Juan via ATL. Corporate travel started forcing her to use Delta over JB and so she stopped checking.
Problem is the Delta flight takes too long.

Not always true. Seasonal availability, or only running certain days of the week could have been the answer. Turns out, per fieldafm's post, it was the former.
Jax to San Juan now goes through Ft. Lauderdale.
I am flying JetBlue to Puerto Rico next week....from Tampa!

That's weird, cause when they announced the seasonal service last year they said they were ending the winter flights and would only do summertime.
QuoteJet Blue will service nonstop flights from Jacksonville to San Juan only between April and September. That service will stop between September 3 and April.

There's more to Puerto Rico than San Juan. I take Jet Blue from Orlando to BQN (Raphael Hernandez -the old Ramey Air Force Base) now part of Aguadilla in the northwest corner of the island. It's a direct flight. The drawbacks are 1. It's a middle of the night flight, 2. You have to drive to Orlando, 3. The return flight is at 3 am, and the airport doesn't have a jetway. No big deal.
Park your car in Orlando at Xpress Valet Parking for $3.99 per day ($4.99 if you don't reserve online) and they deliver you via shuttle right to the curbside checkin. They park and retrieve your car at a much better price than others we've used or researched.
Car rental is right there at BQN. All the usual plus Charlie. Drive to San Juan, if you must, but why not see another, less traveled part of the island?
Stay at the Mariott Coutyard right there, two minutes from the airport or many others close by. If you are current or retired military or DOD you can rent a whole house or just a room on the Coast Guard section of the airport. Our room in one of the MWR rental facilities was only $45 per night - the Mariott is over three times that rate and you still have to bring your own washcloth.
The Mariott has a casino... Bit of history-the Mariott is the former Ramey AFB Hospital and the casino is located where the maturnity ward was. Babies born there on base are affectionately known as Casino Babies and the Ramey Air Force Base Historical Association (of which I am a member) presents "Casino Baby" certificates of birth.

Good advice. Trying to go check out the Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, and Condado Vanderbilt. Was going to go next weekend but, alas, no direct flight and connecting kind of kills the schedule I had planned.

I stayed at the Renaissance La Concha a few years ago. This time I'm trying the Condado Hilton (which used to be branded as a Hilton Conrad hotel)...it seems far nicer than the Caribe Hilton on the other side of the channel.
