^ Not really sure what that has to do with our local region and culture though....  IMO would have been better to see our local artists showcasing NEFL.

It was an open contest to artists. It states that the artists are from St. Aug, and Neptune Beach.

^ I understand that.   :)    My concern is that the winning artwork does not connect/identify with our region, in my opinion.  I like the artwork itself and think it was very well crafted by talented local artists but was does abstract art and Asian looking origami have to do with Northeast Florida?

QuoteThe Arts in Public Places hope that they will "create a visual connector to accessible public parking, showcase Jacksonville’s dynamic artist community, and the community’s priority to promote greater accessibility to public art for all ages and backgrounds. "

How does either of those images provide a visual connection to downtown parking facilities?

That said, I do think that this artwork will certainly help to add some color and visual vabrancy to the area and I welcome it.   ;)

Yeah, I know what you mean. Hard to say not knowing what all was entered. It would be cool to see all the submissions.

The two artists featured represent contemporary art that is relatable in all contemporary art appreciated communities. Which Jacksonville is. And increasingly so.
Shaun Thurston is going to execute a piece that assuredly speaks of Jacksonville and North Florida, albeit in a context some wont be able to connect. But it will be powerful and moving.
Rockstar, the idea of a lifted truck and the confederate flag, hhmmmmm! Sounds pretty good.
