Title: NFL ranks Superbowls. Jacksonville is number...
Post by: TheCat on February 03, 2013, 01:20:49 AM
We're 19 out of 46. Will we move up or go down after tomorrow?

Believe me, I'm not one of these overly-cynical people thinking that Jax had the worst Super Bowl from a visitors standpoint, but I think that the biz's editor was off the mark on this one; It seems like the rankings was based off a TV viewer's standpoint (good close games/ nostalgic games etc) moreso than a visitor to a hosting city's. Even that notorious 'seating folly' at Cowboys Stadium (SB 45 Packers vs Steelers) was put aside, for the action on the field (ranked 15th BTW). It also would've helped if original slideshow consistently shown what city the game was held in.

I'm just thankful we hosted one.

It states we had poor weather. I was out and about that entire weekend. Maybe Im losing it, but the weather was perfect that friday and definately Saturday. Did it rain the day of the game or something?

This list has nothing to do with the host cities.  This list is about what games were better in terms of play on the field. Only in Jacksonville, do we find some weird type of way to make such a list an indictment on the city's ability to host the game.

^Sounds about right.

I generally rank Superbowls which feature the New England Patriots lower than other Superbowls. Except Superbowls featuring the Jets, of course. So in that sense, the Jax Superbowl might've been a bit lame. But I recall enjoying the game overall.

Ranking at 19 puts it in the list as one of the better games.

Yes, I'd say that 19th out of 46 (so far) put its it in the top 50% of Super Bowl games.

It was a pretty good game and seems ranked appropriately. Probably the best game I remember watching is the Cardinals-Steelers game from 2009. Worst had to be the 49ers-Chargers.

In spite of my previous anti-New England sentiments, I thought the NY Giants - Patriots game in 2008 was awesome, if only for how close it was (and how the Giants won it right before the end of the game). It probably would've been better had it been a higher-scoring game, though. I think it seemed so great at the time because it came on the heels of a few pretty boring games (the previous two being massive blowouts) on top of it being a Patriots loss.

DuvalDude, I remember it was really cold that weekend. That's about the only weather complaint I can think about for that week. I remember being out along Bay Street that entire weekend. It's crazy when you think about how many existing things on Bay Street wasn't even around that year. Other than MAYBE TSI, there were no clubs open on Bay back then. TSI actually might have been back in Springfield at that time if I remember correctly

Eclate was open.  However, it closed within a year or so after the super bowl.

Oh yeah, I actually liked Eclate. I wish we had a nice Jazz club here in Jax.

Was TSI open at that point? I remember being at the Pearl the day before the game, taking full advantage of the extension of last call.
