Normandy has to fill in these empty spots now, esp with the Checkers that closed way back, and now this. A seemly 'Jax-banned for whatever reason' Long John Silver's would be an instant success.

(Long John Silver's) To me is the best fast food seafood restaurant period. I believe the only one that is near Jacksonville Florida is down at 710 NW 60th Street in Gainesville, Fl. 32602?

Ick.
Why isn't LJS/A&W, etc. here? They are literally everywhere else in the state.
A little birdie also told me the Wal-Mart's on 103rd & Normandy are cutting their hours & no longer gonna be 24/7.
"Recovery". Lol. More like the exact opposite. I smell death on traditional brick & mortar retail. Good thing they're building that Outer Beltway. ::)

LJS left Jacksonville Florida years ago I remember the one on Blanding Blvd and Lynnwood Ave near 103rd St. Another one was over in Arlington at the corner of Arlington Rd and Rogero Rd it's now a Domino's Pizza shop. Orange Park had a LJS off of Highway 17Th Park Ave it's now a Aron's Pizza shop. The beaches had a LJS off of Atlantic Blvd the building now houses a Day or Night Moves. And San Jose had a LJS I believe were a Yogaberry is today. And I'm sure I'm missing others but it's been awhile since they around. A lot of the A & W restaurants came with a KFC? Unless your old and can remember A & W back in the 60's or so?

In recent years, I've noticed a few of these popping up in Central Florida.

Sweet! Now that I know that the reason 7/11 left Jacksonville 20 years ago because the deal they had with Gate Food Stores to leave the area for that time period. Maybe the same thing happen with Long John's Silver? And that's why he only have Capt D's fast food seafood. :'(
Capt D's is terrible.
If you want fried seafood at Captain D's prices, Seafood Express is a better alternative.

I had to do a double take as I glanced on a sign in front of RCMP's Wal-Mart yesterday and I believe that it said new hours. Can anyone confirm that? Even if Wal-Mart had to resort to non-24 hours, IMO it's a lil' far fetched to say that the 'death nail' of those stores with all of that money going through these Wal-Marts. Keep in mind, nothing else (big box) is running 24 hours a day, and maybe there is a reason for it.
Normandy Walmart is cutting back it's hours as well. It will be open from 6AM to 12AM.

The reason is probably the same why Winn-Dixie stopped running 24/7 in the 1990s. That is, you probably spend just about as much keeping the lights on and staff there, then the revenue being taken in by early am shoppers. When I worked at Winn-Dixie, that was our issue. The average and ocassional overnight shopper was coming in for beer or small purchases instead of filling up the cart.

+100
Typically the cigarette line is the only one that's open in those early wee hours.

Hopefully the next move is shutting down completely.
^^^Nice feedback buddy. *sigh*
I can confirm the RCMP Wal-Mart is going 6am-Midnight as well. One of the managers of the RCMP Wal-Mart is a neighbor of mine. He said that "officially" it was done as a theft prevention measure and Wal-Mart won't be laying anyone off. However, he figures most people who are currently working the graveyard shift will probably leave soon anyway because the only option they will have is to stock.
^I can see that. When Winn-Dixie ended their 24 hour experiment, theft also played a large role. If you're a thief, your chances of not getting caught in a 50,000 square foot store with less than 10 people in it rise significantly. At my stores, one manager was shot, and on another occasion, they pistol whiped an employee and a few late night shoppers. Those guys eventually got caught during a routine traffic stop, where the vehicle was searched and the idiots had all their gear in the trunk with pictures they took of themselves counting money. I can only imagine the possibilities in a store the size of Wal-Mart.
Maybe, but I still gotta call BS on it though. All of those Wal-Marts that are cutting hours have that much theft all of a sudden after being there all that time open for 24/7? It's not like they just started doing that. These days it's rare to see a Wally World that's NOT open 24/7, now a good chunk in the city doesn't.
Not complaining, I personally hope they all burn to the ground. But still. Something else is up besides "theft". It it were in their best interest to stay open & make money they would, theft or not. They have a pretty elaborate security system too.
It's not just Jacksonville. Walmart is cutting hours of operation at stores across the country.
I was upset when I read about Arbys. I stay off 103rd. So two Arby closing on the westside was not good. Ill probably have to drive into OP which I HATE. However, the normandy and 103rd location was owned by a older couple who chose to retire and shut down the stores. It didnt have anything to do with lack of business. I believe those were the only two ARby's in the city that werent actually owned by Arby's. I would imagine Arby's would by the buildings and open them back up eventually.

Last time I was in Seattle, as I packed for my flight the next morning I realized I needed a duffle bag. At 11:30pm near SeaTac I found 2 closed WMs before the 3rd I found was a 24/7. It was the first time in years that I could remember a WM not 24/7. I assumed it was just a PACNW concession that WM had to concede to.

Well there you go. And notice we haven't seen much about this in the news, local or otherwise. I think it's a pretty big deal personally. China's economy is retracting, you've got big box stores like Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, etc hurting & closing locations, Target all of a sudden matching online prices from places like Amazon year round, now Wal-Mart feeling the pinch. I don't know if it's the crappy economy, online internet commerce, or a combination of both that's doing it, but it's happening. http://www.businessinsider.com/starbucks-howard-schultz-consumer-behavior-2013-1
I once said places like Blanding Blvd, and strip mall hellish places like it, will eventually look like a bombed out shell of it's former self. Might happen sooner than I thought.
