With the impending departure of Don Shea (sad to see him go) to pursue employment interests outside of the city... I want to officially lobby for Metrojacksonville.com founder and urban planner (and smartest man in Jacksonville) Ennis Davis to fill Mr Shea's outgoing appointment.
Bill Bishop appointed Shea, so please contact Council President Bishop today and encourage your network of contacts to do the same in order to lend your support for this outstading advovate of downtown Jax to fill Shea's impending vacant position.
You can personally take hold of Downtown's future by lobbying for Mr Davis to be appointed to the Downtown Investment Authority.
Bill Bishop's contact infomartion:
(904) 630-1392
WBishop@coj.net.
Motion seconded.
Ennis, is this something that would interest you?
Great idea.
Smartest man in Jacksonville? I don't know about that. I'm just trying to keep pace with the rest of you all.....my role models. Cheshire Cat, my true interest is the betterment of city and a helping achieve a higher quality of life for it's residents. I'd be interested helping in any manner that makes our community a better place.
Will do, great nominee.
Ennis I called Mr. Bishop's office and recommended you. I do not know of anyone else who knows how to take Jackonville to the next level except you man!
great idea
I will be making some calls then Ennis. Would love to see you in this position.
Time to Reclaim Authority too. You have my vote.
PS. If I send you a pic of the new Bulkhead at the Cummer never before Waterways will you post it?
Mr. Councilman Bishop, I'd like to encourage you to appoint Ennis Davis to fill Mr. Shea's position on the Downtown Investment Authority. Ennis Davis is a city planner, and board member and regular contributor to MetroJacksonville.com. If you are not well-acquainted with Mr Davis, a visit to this local blog with its excellent articles about downtown and city planning authored by Ennis Davis will give you an idea of the wealth of talent he has, and what an excellent value-added additon he will be to the DIA.
Thank you for your consideration of this extremely well-qualified individual for the DIA. Debbie Thompson
This city would be very lucky to have Ennis in this position. Great Idea Mike.
If you are reading this, then you have the time to craft a professional sounding email (takes less than 10 minutes) or make a 5 minute phone call.
My e-mail has been sent!
Ennis would be a great choice for DIA.
sent mine.
OK mine is sent.
I would encourage those that have contacted Mr Bishop's office to encourage a friend to do the same.
If you have not yet reached out, now would be a great time to do so.
This would be a great way to kick off 2013 by making sure a tremendously talented advocate of Jacksonville is put in a critically important leadership position.
Let's make it happen!!
What will the staffing situation be for the DIA? Will they be hiring anyone in addition to the Director? If so, I think Ennis could accomplish more as a deputy director or senior staffer than as a DIA board member. If they hire an outside director (which I would imagine is highly likely), Ennis's knowledge of the local game would be invaluable to the new director.
I hope it's not the kiss of death Ennis, but I sent my own recommendation that you should be appointed. LOL!
WE REALLY NEED THIS!

I understand that there is strong consideration for reducing the experience needed for the director to be 5-10 years

Funny TU, I was sitting here thinking perhaps they should require that the new director carries the 'PADI Whale Shark Distinctive Specialty Certification' or 'Comprehensive Zipline Guide Certification,' or perhaps 'Certified Italian Espresso International Coffee Taster licenses,' to ensure the agency is as expertly run as other city departments.
Next DIA Board meeting is just 5 days out. I'm going. I plan on being there. I plan on asking our new DIA/CRA in the USA on a resolution of support on the Historic Promised 680' Downtown Public Pier (Shipyards III). This new Authority can do it with the snap of their fingers. The Commissioners of FIND appointed by the Governor and representing the east coast of the state of Florida are aware of the issue.
As for Ennis. look at the Live Blogging DIA thread.
If you want Ennis show up at city council 1/8/13 Tues. night and fill out a speaker card. Sign the sign in sheet. Fill out a speaker card and let your intentions be immediately known on the card. Emailing councilman Bishop is good as well as all council members.
If you want Ennis show up the next day at the DIA Board meeting 2pm Ed Ball bldg. and do the same thing as you would at the city council meeting.
One, Two, Three, who are we voting for?
I don't give a Damn.
Next stop is JacksonNam
And
It's five, six, seven, eight.
MJ just can't wait.
To serve up Ennis on the plate.
You have my vote.
A new Authority.
Embrace it.
Or
It will embrace us.
Prior to the DIA I will be at JWC expressing a concern about the circumventing of our advalorem property taxes in what should have been a Public process.
Mine has been sent. Ennis would be a great asset to the DIA.
Mine sent. I wholeheartedly agree that Ennis would be an asset to the Authority.
Looks like it's going to be Mike Saylor. But CityLife's point above about a staff position may make even more sense.
Rules tomorrow at 10. The legislation is 2013-0040 for Saylor. Has anyone who submitted an email for Ennis received an email back that your email is now part of the permanent record for Ennis? I'm serious.
DIA/CRA meeting in 3 days. Huge concern on how the minutes especially for Public Comment will be reported.

I have not received a reply.
^Not Good.
Sheclown, in my book you are a super astute participant, observer, and extremely knowledgable as to legislative procedure. Anyone else?
I received a reply. The emails are being read.
^An email being read and then being forwarded to the right piece of legislation is key. Anyone else?
With today's announcement of Jim Bailey resigning from DIA, I thought it only fitting to bump this thread.
