Title: 1661 Retail?
Post by: Julian on June 14, 2007, 08:23:41 AM
Hello everyone! so i know that Armor is to move their store from the shoppes of Avondale down to 1661 and yesterday I noticed that the signs are up for a restaurant called ZOES Kitchen, anyone know of anything else going in there? i had heard talk of a Panera bread opening up in there as well. Either way it'll make a nice retail corridor connecting Riverside Park and Memorial Park

Armor has decided not to move to 1661. I have heard that a bank is leasing the corner spot closest to the park.
That is the only news I have for now.

Einstein Bros Bagels open at 1661 Riverside, Monday March 31.  Its a very nice place. Smaller than a Panera, but still decent size. Breakfast and lunch + drinks is the focus. Various sandwiches (paninis - wraps - pizza bagles, etc), breakfast all day, lots of different bagels, coffees, sodas, etc.
It is the corner space directly across from Starbucks and Sushi Cafe.

... and there's already a Zoe's Cafe - pretty good food and service, and it appears there's lots of interior build-out work going on in other spaces

Its great to see the retail spaces in 1661 fill up.  The street level retail spots in the Everbank Building, the library and courthouse garages are still empty.

Einstein Bros. was conducting employee training Saturday and was giving out free sandwiches.  Today is their first official day of business.  As previously mentioned, there is a Zoe's Kitchen on the north end of the retail strip, and a Snap Fitness in between.  I'm not sure how much room is left.  Maybe one more parcel for a smaller business.

No retail tenants will move into the Everbank building until all the construction and landscaping is finished.  Hopefully, that won't take too much longer.  A restaurant in that building would do very well, as Johnny's Deli has a monopoly on that part of town.  Plus, the new JTA trolley will stop right in front of the building.  I had heard at one point the owners of Chives and Cafe Nola were going to open a restaurant there, but had backed out due to construction.
